Last month, we welcomed William “Chris” Pederson, MD, FACS, FAAP, Chief of the Division of Plastic Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine, as a Visiting Professor for the UTMB Plastic Surgery program. Dr. Pederson’s visit offered far more than remarkable surgical cases—it offered perspective. Through thoughtful discussions on surgical education and mentorship, he emphasized the importance of maintaining balance throughout training and challenged us to think critically about how we can most effectively train the next generation of surgeons. He also shared incredible insights into complex reconstruction and microsurgery through fascinating, one-of-a-kind cases that highlighted not only the technical possibilities of our field, but also the realities that come with it—the highs, the lows, the victories, and the challenges that shape every microsurgeon. We are grateful for the opportunity to learn from leaders whose impact extends beyond surgical technique and leaves a lasting impression on how we train, teach, and grow. #UTMBPlastics #VisitingProfessor #PlasticSurgeryEducation by @utmbplasticsurgery
