Muertecita is live in just under two weeks, and Death has been a very present theme in my life these days. Transitions, profound internal shifts, and even the death of a beloved artist in the San Miguel community...it has been an intense period of recalibration and introspection: Who am I? What do I want? Where am I going? Which relationships to preserve, and which ones to let go? And most importantly...who do I want to be, in every moment? In some ways, I feel like the complete opposite of who I was before. Yet, at the same time, I feel more "me" than I have ever been. Confusing? Yes. Disorienting? Absolutely -- especially when I find myself in similar situations as before and responding in totally opposite ways. It makes me unpredictable even to myself, in a tug-o-war of sorts between the old identity that struggles to remain in power, and the new self that wishes to do away with identities completely. To be free to decide who she is in every moment. And it feels absolutely perfect, to be experiencing all this in the midst of Birthing a hybrid festival centered around Death. Get tickets to Muertecita -- links in bio ☝🏼 More info: muertecita.com See you on Nov 5 at @muertecita_ in @villasxichu ✨ ===== Body and face art by the incredible @facepaintingsanmiguel @cynnamon.canelita , the best face/body painter I have ever had the fortune to work with, whose art you will get to enjoy in Muertecita 🎨❀️😍 πŸ“: @cunadelcielo #bodypaint #facepaint #catrina #diadelosmuertos #dayofthedead #art #artist #dance #dancer #mexico #death #transitions #transformation #change #event #hybridevent #hybridfestival #sanmiguelevents #sanmigueldeallende by @valenciaselestin_
A D D I C T I O N About a week ago, I made the very spontaneous decision to join an ayahuasca ceremony with only 3 hours' notice. Despite logic telling me it's not a good idea (I haven't prepared, I didn't do the diet, etc), the soul felt strangely called to say 'Yes'. So I did. And it turned out to be exactly what I needed, without even knowing I needed it. I've heard stories of people breaking long-term addictions through ayahuasca, but as someone who has never had any substance-related addictions -- be it coffee, alcohol, or drugs -- I had innocently assumed that I will never know how it feels to have such a drastically life-altering plant medicine experience. My first ceremony 6 weeks prior to this one reaffirmed that belief, for while it was beautiful, cathartic and magical, I would not call it life-changing. So I was not at all expecting the profound shift I experienced after this 2nd ceremony, nor the level of clarity I have held since then, which allowed me to see that I had an addiction after all, albeit an emotional one -- the addiction to not choosing myself first. To feeling unworthy. Unwanted. Unloved. Deep down, I had often observed these subconscious tendencies within myself, but I never quite had the conviction nor strength of will to break free from these patterns. Until now. And I cried. I mourned for the death of that part of me, that I had clung to out of habit, but now I see that it no longer serves me...and I let go. Thank you my dear friend @cansecotarot for this divinely-timed invitation, and for all the mind-expanding, soul-nourishing exchanges we've had since. πŸ™πŸ» ===== πŸŽ₯: Improvised dance performance BTS shot for the music video of "Liberdanza" by @iskandar.widjaja.
