“Hi, I’m Heidi! I’m a multi-medium artist born in Nova Scotia, and now living in Vancouver.

My work is really a love letter to colour, shape, and texture. My first instinct when making art is always driven by colour, and I love using it to translate the rhythms of nature into stylized, abstract landscapes.

My show is a cozy conversation between two different worlds: hard-edge painting and textile weaving. On canvas, I love creating crisp, geometric shapes with clean lines and flat planes of colour—playing with eye-catching neons, soft pastels, and saturated tones. I also treat yarn exactly like paint. On the loom, I map out those same geometric landscapes using a rich mix of textures, blending flat weaves with plush, velvety piles and even a bit of metallic shimmer. Lately, I’ve also been having a lot of fun building dimensional pieces, where the soft fibre forms literally break free and spill right out of their rigid wooden frames.

I want my art to be something you can feel as much as you see, inviting you to experience colour as a living, physical presence.

As the exhibition World at Hand draws to a close, join us on the last day, Saturday July 25, from 7–10pm for a mid summer gathering. Artists Jesse Gray, Christian Newby, and Kuh Del Rosario will be present.

World at Hand gathers the work of five artists who are curious about the purpose, meaning and value of the natural and manufactured phenomena around them. Aileen Bahmanipour, Jesse Gray, Danan Lake, Christian Newby and Kuh Del Rosario draw attention to the potential of the tools, objects and elements at their fingertips, the stories they have become imbued with, and how playing with their composition, context or utility can expand these narratives.

The Wind and its Shadow invites viewers to slowly meander, guided by a gentle breeze. Together, Erick Jantzen’s atmospheric landscapes and Carol Kong’s wood‑fired vessels transport the mind into quiet contemplation. Their works trace the ephemeral and the memory left behind when nature brushes past.

✨ this featured vase “I died for beauty, but was scarce”, was hand pinched and wood-fired in an anagama (cave/tunnel kiln). The surface was formed by natural wood ash & flame, swirling within the atmosphere of the kiln over 4 days of firing 🔥

The Hidden Door

Utilizing sculpture, drawing, photography and text, Shirley Wiebe’s multi-part installation forms a
personal narrative driven by an engagement with the emotional and sensory content of dreams.
Known as a master of re-purposed everyday materials, she draws on the deep personal and
collective meanings or speciAc forms and physical objects – a house, a door, a window, a stairway,
a bridge – that re-occur throughout her practice.
The Hidden Door takes its title from Carl Jung’s description of the dream as “a small hidden door in
the deepest and most intimate sanctum of the soul…” This exhibition of new sculpture and mixed-
media work has come out of Wiebe’s lifelong practice of maintaining a dream journal. Presented as an interconnected installation, it gives physical form to this private world and the mysteries beyond consciousness.

Wiebe’s project reflects on wakefulness and dreaming, the boundaries between the seen and
unseen, the remembered and the forgotten, and points to the connection between an individual
and a collective unconscious.

Discover the beauty of Japanese-inspired botanical art in this special one-time collaborative workshop with ceramic artist Kate Metten and horticulturist Vanessa Tam. In this immersive three-hour experience, participants will handbuild a ceramic dish and create their own kokedama—a sculptural moss-wrapped plant rooted in the Japanese philosophy of wabi-sabi, which embraces beauty in simplicity, imperfection, and the passage of time. The workshop begins with a guided handbuilding session where you’ll create a one-of-a-kind ceramic vessel designed to cradle your living sculpture. Kate will introduce fundamental handbuilding techniques, surface textures, and finishing methods before your piece is glazed and kiln fired by the studio for later pickup. Following a short break, Vanessa will guide participants through the process of constructing a kokedama from start to finish. Learn how to prepare the soil mixture, wrap and secure the moss, choose the right plant, and care for your finished piece so it continues to thrive long after the workshop. No previous experience in ceramics or plant care is required. This workshop is designed for beginners and anyone looking to slow down, work with their hands, and create a meaningful object that continues to evolve over time.
