Do you take a moment to honour the transition from day to night? 🌅 In this twilight moment there is a hiatus, a gap, and if we bring our attention to it, we can experience a profound moment of stillness, of pure awareness. Everyone is invited ;) Every evening and every morning. It’s a divine gift 🎁

Sunset is one of the most widely honoured “threshold” moments across spiritual traditions, a time when day and night meet and the veil between ordinary and sacred dissolves.

Hindu / Yogic: Sandhya (“junction”) is the sacred twilight window, traditionally one of three daily times for prayer, mantra, and meditation (the Sandhya Vandanam). Sunset is considered especially potent for Gayatri japa. In Tantra and Kashmir Shaivism, junctures like this are seen as moments when the breath and awareness naturally settle into the gap between states, a doorway into stillness.

Judaism: The day begins at sunset. Shabbat starts at nightfall on Friday, and Maariv (the evening prayer) marks the transition. Darkness is where the new day is born.

Islam: Maghrib, the fourth daily prayer, is performed just after sunset. It also marks the breaking of the fast during Ramadan.

Christianity: Vespers (evening prayer) and Evensong give thanks for the day and entrust the night to God. Many monastic traditions keep this hour as a daily rhythm of gratitude and release.

Buddhism: Sunset is a natural cue for contemplating impermanence. Many practitioners use it for evening meditation and for reviewing the day with honesty and compassion.

Indigenous traditions: Many Native American, Aboriginal, and African traditions honor sunset as a time of gratitude, ancestor remembrance, and ceremony, and the sun’s descent is often seen as a journey to the underworld or the realm of the ancestors.

Zoroastrianism and Sikhism: Zoroastrians pray in the Aiwisruthrima gah at dusk. Sikhs recite Rehras Sahib in the evening.

How often do you honour the sunset? Or sunrise?

I was staying in a hotel that has an amazing swimming pool which becomes a river that passes all the rooms and circles around back to the pool. From the river there are these little side-pools and jacuzzis hidden in the trees. I was completely in awe of the beauty of this place and having an incredible time floating along the river. It was my Mom’s earthly birthday and I was thinking about her when I found a side-pool surrounded by frangipani trees. Many frangipani flowers were floating in the water and I was twirling one under my nose, getting high on the fragrance and wondering if my Mom cared about her birthday since leaving this world or if she even had awareness of it, or me, and if she was still “her” as I knew her here or something entirely different. I said happy birthday to her and offered her a frangipani flower. Suddenly I felt her presence. Wow. Spontaneously and just for fun I asked her to show me a red flower that would be an obvious sign that she could hear exactly what I was saying to her. I chose red as there were no red flowers around the pool and I really wanted it to be a clear sign. I continued along the river looking around with amusement for my sign. I saw flowers in every colour except red. Then I went for lunch with Max and when we went back to our room I saw that a very beautiful red flower had been placed in the vase I’d put on our altar with the flowers from the day before. Max said it wasn’t him, it must have been the cleaning lady. She hadn’t done that before. Her timing was in divine conspiracy with my Mom. What an incredible moment. 🌹

This is love: to fly toward a secret sky,
to cause a hundred veils to fall each moment.
First, to let go of life.
In the end to take a step without feet;
to regard this world as invisible,
and to disregard what appears to be the self.

Heart, I said, what a gift it has been
to enter this circle of lovers,
to see beyond seeing itself,
to reach and feel within the breast.

~Rumi

When I was on this beach flying in the wind a part of this poem came to me and today I remembered it again and found the whole poem.

I remember a period of life when I was always stuck in my mind overthinking everything. I wasn’t really here. My heart was beating, (faster than it needed to from mental agitation) but I wasn’t present and I was missing out on the beauty of being alive. Then I was initiated into a spiritual path and everything got better in every way. I received practices to calm and focus the mind. I tried them all and practiced the ones I enjoyed a lot. That’s the point of sharing this. It can be really fun! Every spiritual tradition emphasises the importance of gaining control over your mind, and thankfully there are so many ways to achieve this. I heard many people say Oh I can’t meditate, it’s too difficult. Well there are many many styles and methods of meditation, and meditation isn’t the only way to calm the mind. Choose something that works and stick to it. Singing mantras works very well for me because I like singing, the repetition calms my mind, a mantra has a sacred divine resonance so you start feeling very very good within a few minutes and it’s a way to get out of any negativity I allowed in and instead create beauty, joy, peace. Mantras replace useless thoughts. If you keep practicing it goes much much deeper than you could have imagined. Meditation is very easy after chanting mantras. Find your practice. Do it every day. I really believe in a daily spiritual practice, to drop out of the mind, and to feel connected to who you truly are. Do you have a daily practice? I’d love to hear about it… Need some motivation? Reach out ❤️

This is life raising my teen brother in Thailand…Om Shanti…I’m so grateful for all the teachings and practices I’ve received that prepared me for this. We are enjoying our sweet yogi life very much, laughing a lot, praying together, teasing each other like true siblings. I’m most grateful for the peace and harmony in our home. It is a wonderful blessing 🙏🏻🌸

🌝🌸✨ I did yoni steaming for the first time. Have you tried it? Which are your favourite herbs and flowers to use? I used calendula, lavender, rose and chamomile. The moon was moving through Taurus bringing some extra feminine nourishment. So blissful. Please share any tips for next time 🌸🌼🌺🌹🌻🌷🪻

Whenever you return to your practice, the Divine Presence is right there waiting for you. God doesn’t keep score of how long you’re away. Discipline isn’t a payment to earn God’s favour. It simply burns the veil. Return with joy into the joy 🙏🏻💙
