POSTS STORIES REELS

Hello 👋 you may have noticed that I've been a bit quiet on here recently. Not on purpose, just all those little obstacles life throws at you... a collection of different events that have happened to take priority in my spare time. One of them, being that I recently (a few days after my last post, in fact), started a medical trial for my recently diagnosed Crohn's disease.

I'm in the intial double blind stage of a faecal transplant trial, I find out in a couple of weeks how it's been going, and if I stay on the trial 🤞combine that with winter viruses that come with my son's first year of daycare and a busy uni semester for both my husband and I, and well, life is certainly a daring adventure at the moment!
I wouldn't have it any other way... it keeps me on my toes, and I'm generally more productive!

👉 I'm curious to know, what's keeping you busy? 👇 by @villavamp

One of the fun parts of a design is translating what the client (you) says into an inspiration/ mood board that encompasses what they want to achieve with the space as well as the overall aesthetic.

Green is very popular right now! What do you think, would you want a Kitchen with this vibe?

🏠 from HOUSE to HOME 🏡 ✨️

It's as simple as it sounds. My goal is to help you transform the house you're living in... into YOUR home. ✨️ A home that has you & your family's vibe engrained in the aesthetics. ✨️ A home that works for you and how you live in it. ✨️ A home that enhances your mood and makes your life easier. ✨️ Who doesn't want that??

Today's flatlay was inspired by @Pantone's colour of the year for 2024. #PeachFuzz. Are you a fan? by @villavamp

Junk piling up? House feels dark? Kids complaining about not having enough privacy? Here are 3 layout changes you can make to your floorplan to improve the overall experience of your home.

🩷 Drop zones at entries! Drop zones are transitional spaces for you to dump your physical (and mental) baggage at the door! Ideally it includes artwork or photos (something that makes you feel good), seating, key/bag/coat/shoe storage, a mirror, and if it's an entry that guests use, think about making the storage closed off or hidden.

🧡 Private access between bedrooms & bathrooms. Once upon a time, when I was a teenager, I visited a friend's place (as you do). I walked in the door just as her brother was doing the dash from bathroom to bedroom, just in a towel. I didn't see anything, and I didn't really give it much thought, but boy, was he embarrassed, and he was pretty upset! So add that little extra wall or move a door - but give the occupants of these ensuite-less bedrooms some privacy, please!

🩷 North facing living areas. The orientation of your house is one of the most important aspects of your home and impacts your comfort and overall experience for many reasons. One of the ways it improves your experience is by providing good natural light all day. Depending on your location and climate, you may also need to consider ways to keep the direct sunlight off your windows to avoid cooking in a hot box 🥵

✨️ Floor Plan Review ✨️

You might be surprised to know that you don't necessarily need to knock down your house and start over or extend. Sometimes, it's just a matter of re-jigging the existing floor plan.

Here is an example of some simple changes that could be made to improve the way this family uses their home. For this home, their orientation was already great, so it was just a matter of space planning. I made the following changes:

🩷 added an internal entry & additional storage. A must needed place for you to drop all your things when you get home, store school bags, shoes, coats, and those rarely used items like suitcases.

🧡 moved the two small bedrooms from next to the kitchen to the back of the house. This means all bedrooms now have access to the bathroom without walking through the main living areas. They're a little bit bigger as well - for those teenage kids or interestate guests.

🩷 moved the kitchen to where the small bedrooms used to be. This creates a much bigger kitchen/ living/ dining area and makes circulation between the indoor and outdoor entertaining areas much more spacious. The pantry is also now part of the kitchen instead of on the other side of a walkway, and the access to the bedroom hallway has moved, making the family room more enclosed & functional.

🧡 you could go one step further and move bed 3 down a little if you wanted a family room. The design is flexible!

I'm a big dreamer, so my husband gets worried when I get the tape measure out because that's step 2 - envisioning it. Scheduling it can be a tough step, though, because you're either overwhelmed with the perceived amount of work is involved, or you are out of your depth with what to do or what order to do it.

That's where I come along to put things into a customised design guide ready for you to just DO.

So, if you are dreaming or envisioning a DIY bathroom, kitchen, mud room, or other DIY reno/ makeover. Schedule a chat with me so we can make it REAL.

DIY queen Yasmin Chancellor has very kindly shared some of her experiences with DIY and home renovations as she and her husband Mike team up (@chancellors_changing_homes) to flip houses & renovate their own home.

I will be sharing more of this interview as part of a DIY Queens series, but first let's watch this brilliantly answered question - If you were a tool, what tool would you be?

If you are a DIY queen and want to share your journey to help inspire and motivate others, then get in touch ♥️

I have been playing around with flatlays and material samples this morning. Which hardware colour do you prefer? by @villavamp

This is such a good quote by William Morris.

If it doesn't add value to your life, then why have it in your home? Bonus points for pieces that double as beautiful and practical!

If you need help turning your house from a house with stuff in it, into a home that is beautiful and works for you, then let's chat! I can help with furniture layouts as well as designing custom spaces to suit that dumping zone in the corner of your kitchen or living area.

What tool scares you? I know it's just practice, and I know it's all in my head, but there's something about a jigsaw that always scares me off from using it.

I know I'm not the only one with a tool fear, especially those newbie DIYers out there. It can be scary to use a tool for the first time!

So, which one is it for you?
