PERICO SAMBEAT SETS THE FIRST NOTE OF THE VALÈNCIA JAZZ FESTIVAL Jazz returns to València with a familiar voice and a sound deeply rooted in the city. On June 24, the 29th València Jazz Festival opens under the stars of the Palau Gardens with saxophonist Perico Sambeat, joined by vocalist Sara Dowling and the Jove Big Band Sedajazz. A central figure in Spanish jazz and one of the country’s most internationally celebrated saxophonists, Sambeat has spent more than three decades shaping a language of his own, sharing stages and recordings with artists such as Brad Mehldau, Pat Metheny and Maria Schneider. In 2026, he became the first jazz musician to be appointed a member of the Valencian Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Carlos @gvamubav, an honour that recognises a life devoted to music. There could hardly be a more fitting opening. Before the arrival of Grammy-winning stars and nights filled with gospel, soul and Latin rhythms, the festival begins with one of its own: a musician whose sound has become part of the heartbeat of València. A first note, both intimate and universal, opening a month where jazz once again becomes a way of inhabiting the city. 📷 @vilmadobilaite I @vilmadobilaite_jazzinspired @jazzjournalists @inandoutjazz @masjazzmagazine @beat.valencia #jazzinspired #vilmadobilaite📷 by @vilmadobilaite_jazzinspired

Powerful, unpredictable and vividly alive… Aistė Kalvelytė at @kaunas_artists_house. Her creative force lies in the physical intensity and restless imagination she brings to sound. Across visual art and music, she explores form, texture and movement, making experimentation feel immediate and tangible. On this occasion, she performed as part of Weird Ugly Fish, alongside Julius Čepukėnas on electronics, blending jazz and electronic sounds with a spirit of experimentation. “It’s just a kind of jazzy exercise of avoiding squeezing yourself into frames.” — Aistė Kalvelytė #freejazz #jazzinspired #vilmadobilaite📷 by @vilmadobilaite_jazzinspired

My photos and review at the Jazz Jazz Journalists Association News Magazine 🥰 PERICO SAMBEAT PLAYS ZAPPA was presented at the Festival MIL ESTONES DE JAZZ (Beneixama, Spain) on August 15. The project, commissioned by Chevi Martínez and Jimmy Glass Jazz Club @jimmyglassjazz , was conceived more than ten years ago as an encounter between Zappa’s music and a personalized language of contemporary jazz, with an album of it released by Karonte in 2016. “At Beneixama, the powerful presence of Clara Juan Soler, a recent addition to the ensemble, particularly stood out. Her saxophone brought a fresh energy and another dimension to the group’s collective sound. There was something especially compelling about hearing Zappa’s universe through her playing. Zappa in feminine. Powerful. And perhaps that is the most faithful way to honor Frank Zappa: not by repeating his music, but by continuing to create through it.” Full review: https://news.jazzjournalists.org/ 📷: Vilma Dobilaitė @vilmadobilaite @vilmadobilaite_jazzinspired #jazzinspired #vilmadobilaite📷 by @vilmadobilaite_jazzinspired
