Udaipur Miniature Painting

A tradition that has flourished for centuries, Udaipur’s miniature paintings are brought to life using impossibly fine brushes, natural pigments, and remarkable patience. From intricate royal courts to delicate flora and fauna, each piece is a testament to the precision and artistry of its maker.

Sharing a few moments from a visit to these incredible artists in Udaipur. It’s inspiring to see a craft so deeply rooted in history continue to thrive through the hands of today’s artisans.

A wall, a sketch, a few materials we love... and a lot of making.

For Kallola, we set out to create pieces that felt rooted in Indian craft, but interpreted in a quiet, contemporary way. Reclaimed sleeper wood, puja dhaaga, brass ghungroos and shells - each material chosen for the story it brings, not just how it looks.

One of our favourite projects to date.

And the food at @kallola_ is even better!

Tambat Kaam — the centuries-old craft of copper beating, still practised by hand in the narrow lanes of Pune.

Every dent, every curve, every finish is shaped through rhythm, precision, and years of inherited skill. Watching these artisans work is a reminder that true craftsmanship isn’t rushed - it’s built one careful strike at a time.

Sharing a few moments from a visit to the artisans’ workshop a while ago. Grateful to witness traditions like these that continue to keep India’s craft heritage alive.

Tarkashi, a centuries-old wood inlay craft from Uttar Pradesh.

Fine grooves are carved into wood before brass is hand-hammered into each one, creating intricate patterns with remarkable precision.

Traditionally seen on decorative objects, today it’s finding new life in furniture, artworks, and contemporary interiors.

This video is AI-generated to help visualise the process and is not a technically accurate representation of the craft. The actual process is entirely handcrafted by skilled artisans. 🤍

India, one colour story at a time ✨ by @vishhdesign

A week at VISHH

Any given week at our studio is absolute creative chaos - the most fulfilling kind!

We’re constantly switching between clients, projects, materials, techniques and ideas. No two days ever look the same, and that’s exactly how we like it.

This is a glimpse into one (slightly old) week at VISHH ✨ by @vishhdesign

Safe to say my shopping habits haven’t changed much.

I’ve been collecting vintage textiles since my early trips around India in 2017, long before VISHH existed.

Somehow, they’ve always found their way back to me. Picked up my most recent one 2 days ago 😆 by @vishhdesign

One of our favourite things to collect while travelling isn’t objects.

It’s colour!

These are all photographs we’ve taken over the years while travelling across India. Some of our favourite palettes have come from old homes, painted walls and weathered doors. 🎨 by @vishhdesign
