The inaugural Tides & Terroir weekend… 🎥 by @dgsc Brought to you by @slhwine at the historic @visitasilomar grounds on an unseasonably warm weekend… Over 300 attendees, 25+ wineries, 18+ chefs, and an array of local artists and vendors came to savor the day. And as all weekends should start, we were splashed with @privatepropertywines bubbles by @caracciolicellars. A coastal vibey soundtrack by Rory Lynch… While Monterey culinary scene’s newest member @nicekidpizza brought nothing but seasonal local ingredients to their bite. And we dared to fire up the grill in this heatwave… While local artist @bekahbullart of @highflow____ performed a live art installation on donated boards by @boyntonsurfboards. Proceeds supported the Monterey State Historic Park Association. Our favorite descriptor of the weekend was “dreamy adult picnic”… The option to keep shade with custom hats by @hamiltonhatlounge. Toro Sushi of Carmel serves up yellowfin tuna on a wonton chip with seaweed salad and sriracha mayo. For those who may not know about our backyard, Asilomar State Beach and Conference Grounds has a history rooted in indigenous stewardship, women’s leadership, and landmark architecture. Chef @jdmejia84 of @budsatlaplaya grilled up branzino with honeynut squash over fennel citrus salad. The day felt truly organic between attendees and makers. Indian summer brought record breaking temperatures into the 90s which truly made for such a spectacular day here on the coast. There was the opportunity to chat with your favorite winemakers such as @rusty0106 of @joycewinecompany. The origin of the name Asilomar came from a Stanford student in 1913… …a portmanteau of the Spanish words asilo (refuge) and mar (sea), meaning “refuge by the sea”. The 107-acre property protects fragile coastal dune ecosystems and the Asilomar Dunes Natural Preserve. Thank you @visitasilomar for sharing this beautiful property with us and we look forward to sharing 2027 dates for Tides & Terroir! by @visitasilomar
Built as Julia Morgan’s final project on the Asilomar property, Merrill Hall was originally planned as an open-air amphitheater. Because of harsh, windy coastal weather, the design changed into an enclosed indoor auditorium. Morgan modeled the interior after St. John’s Presbyterian Church in Berkeley (which she also designed, now known as the Berkeley Playhouse). It features local rough-cut granite, wood-frame construction, exposed structural elements, arched clerestory windows, French doors, and stenciled friezes featuring marine motifs. Merrill Hall and the surrounding historic district are part of the Asilomar Conference Grounds, which was designated a National Historic Landmark for its pioneering role in women’s recreation, the YWCA, and California resort heritage. Salt air, cypress shade, and the Pacific just past the dunes. On Saturday, the first @tidesandterroir Tasting by the Tides brought together Monterey Bay’s wine and food community on Asilomar’s Grand Cypress Meadow. Two dozen wineries poured, local chefs served bites built from bay seafood and valley produce, makers and artists set up shop, and two surfboards were painted live on the meadow. Thank you to all the chefs, vintners, and makers who joined us. And our gratitude to @earthboundfarm for the produce on every plate, Scott Caraccioli and Samantha Cooper of @CaraccioliCellars for helping build this from the first conversation, Ashley Wolff of @Jejukitchen and Hollie Jackson of @hjacksonevents for bringing the culinary and kitchens together, Sommelier extraordinaire Bernabe DeLuna, @ediblemontereybay, and @visitasilomar for a truly magical setting. The first Tides & Terroir is in the books. See you next year on the coast. #TidesAndTerroir #SantaLuciaHighlands #MontereyWineCountry #MontereyCounty by @visitasilomar
@highflow____ gallery co-founders Bekah Bull and Jason Kurzman live-painted two @boyntonsurfboards at @tidesandterroir on Saturday at @visitasilomar. Register and bid to take the original art home. A portion of proceeds supports @mshpa_monterey. Thank you to everyone who joined us for the inaugural Tasting by the Tides. Bid at the link in bio. by @visitasilomar

A big thank you to Alex Marin of Asilomar Conference Grounds for guest speaking in the HOSP 200 Introduction to Sustainable Hospitality and Tourism class. Moments like this are what make the SHTM program special. When industry partners open their doors and share their stories, our students see the careers they are building and the difference they can make. Grateful for partners like Alex who help make this education on location. 🌿 #CSUMB #SHTM #EducationOnLocation #Asilomar #SustainableHospitality by @visitasilomar
