Something for Halloween.

'Goopy'

Hand embroidery on mixed media background. by @wabisabistar

I recently came across the Japanese practice of 'Momigami', where you turn paper into cloth using water, oil and a kneading process.

There are all sorts of variations in outcome, depending on paper type, whether you use oil or lotion, amount of time kneading etc. I found using brown paper wrapping to be my favourite material so far.

These are some of the results. by @wabisabistar

Much earlier in the year, I made a group of goopy little paintings called,

'It's my party and I'll cry if I want to'.

I think they are about ageing, loss and death.

This one of them. It's a bit hideous and I love it. Hurrah! 🎉 😂 by @wabisabistar

Radical Softness frames softness as an active force-capable of persistence, resistance, and quiet disruption. Through practices such as quilt, crochet, weaving and textile sculpture, the worjs engage material not as something passive, but as something that holds tension, absorbs history and reshapes form.

Today is 18th Buddha birthday.

18 years ago on this day, I drove up to Taplow Court to receive my Gohonzon, the Buddhist scroll I chant to. There was a fairly big snow storm that day and so there were a lot of challenges to overcome to get there, but with support and determination, I did.

The picture is of a spikey old cactus that after many years of living at my home, started to bloom for one night per year. You see, even spikey old cacti can produce fragrant, cooling and beautiful blooms. 😘 by @wabisabistar
