While our hearts are broken and somehow still manage to beat, we want to pause to
honor the massive impact of Shannah Rae’s unique genius on this world.

She is irreplaceable not just as a human, a teacher, a daughter, and a friend, but also
as a lighthouse within the singing community. Voices you know from your playlists, on Broadway stages, and in clubs across the world have been shaped by Shannah’s greatness.

The ability to pass on a skill to others—in Shannah’s case, the art of Wailing—is a rare meta-skill that few ever master. Shannah did. She was a true master teacher. Her gift lay in the timing of her feedback, in noticing the smallest growth, and inencouraging her students to take big swings (“Yes you can!”), all while making them feel safe enough to express their most vulnerable instrument—their voice.

A great light has gone out, and today we honor her brightness here.

If you are able, a donation to Shannah’s GoFundMe would be deeply appreciated by
her family to help cover funeral costs. https://gofund.me/95312513b

Not all of us can say we accomplished what we set out to do on this earth, but Shannah Rae did just that. She built the business, the solo performance career, the relationships, and the life she had dreamed of.
She was ambitious in her pursuits, quick to offer a hug to anyone in need, and the sparkly, soulful glue that held together communities of artists, her church family, her friends, and her students. If you knew Shannah, you loved her. She was many things to many people, and because of that, she will be all the more deeply missed.
If you are able, a donation to Shannah’s go-fund-me would be greatly appreciated by her family. https://gofund.me/95312513b

Singing isn’t just from the neck up. Your whole body is part of the sound.

This is the start of a new series where Shannah Rae of @wailwithshannahrae and @mrgrae of @graewellness team up to show how connecting body and voice changes everything.

Watch as Tim guides Sara into the freedom that makes her final belt in “Maybe This Time” soar. Let us know what sparked your curiosity as you watched.

Work with us:
Need help with your voice? That’s Rae.
Need care for your body? That’s Grae.

Like and follow both accounts to keep up with the full series.

First I sing it straight, then again with the pop/rock tools layered in. The techniques are listed in the text. See how many you can catch. Most singers are surprised by just how many subtle shifts are happening. At Wail with Shannah Rae, we explore these tools together so you can bring that same style and confidence to your own voice. Curious how this could feel in your singing? Come be part of the exploration.

Confidence at the Dance Call!

For singers and movers who want to feel stronger when it’s time to dance. You’ll practice picking up and retaining basic combinations to build sequence memory and real-world confidence at the call. This is not a technique class. There is no across-the-floor or heavy technical work. We are focused on helping you learn fast and keep it.

Jump in tomorrow: led by Michael Anthony Sylvester. Come get reps in a low-pressure, supportive room and leave feeling ready for the next dance call.

This year I’m taking the annual birthday concert online. I’ll be live-streaming on Facebook with my good friend, @therickypope

Suggested virtual cover is $25. Hope to see you at 8pm! by @wailwithshannahrae

Singers love Landslide (Fleetwood Mac), but those low notes can feel like a fight. The secret? Resist the assist. Stay neutral, stop pushing, and watch those lows come out smooth and effortless.
