In Bauchi, a girl is more likely to be married at 15 than to finish secondary school. Last week, 13 schools stood on one podium to challenge that.

At Sa'adu Zungur Secondary School, in commemoration of International Day of the Girl Child, we brought together Immaculate Conception, GDSS, Hope Academy, Rochas Foundation, Our Lady's and 8 others to argue motions rallying around this year's theme - End Child Marriage and Invest in Her Rights.

Because education goes beyond the classroom. It builds confidence, sharpens critical thinking, and gives a girl the voice to challenge the traditions trying to write her future for her.

For three rounds they argued poverty, insecurity, poor infrastructure and harmful practices.

Four schools are through. Tomorrow they meet at ICC to prove that a girl with a podium is more powerful than a tradition with a rulebook.

At Eagles Impact Adolescents Initiative, we believe no girl should have to debate for her right to be a child, and that educating a girl is not just about what she learns, it is about the voice she gains and the future she can shape.

GRAND FINALE:
📍 International Conference Center (ICC), Bauchi
⏰ 9:00AM

$A recent visitor to the Wunti Al-Khair Foundation came seeking help for a friend recovering from a fracture. The Foundation provided the needed medication and a walking frame to support his recovery. This reflects our core mission: advancing community development and improving access to quality health care for those in need. We are grateful for the trust placed in us and remain committed to serving our community #healthpost #community #bauchistate #helpinghands by @wakfoundation$

In Northeast Nigeria, 43% of girls are married before 18. Last week in Bauchi, 13 schools told us how to end it.

At Sa'adu Zungur Secondary School, we hosted the State-Level Inter-School Girls Debate for International Day of the Girl Child.

13 schools - Immaculate Conception, GDSS, Hope Academy, Rochas Foundation, Our Lady's and 8 others - debated for three rounds: Is early marriage the major barrier to girls' education?

Four schools move to the grand finale tomorrow, 4th November.

And for us at Eagles Impact Adolescents Initiative, this debate was a chance to reaffirm what we believe - we believe no girl should have to debate for her right to be a child, that early marriage should never cut her education short, and that when you give girls a podium, they will show you the solutions we have been looking for.

From a Dream to Innovation: How WAKF Helped Make It Possible

Meet the founder of Smart Farm IoT, Suleiman Inuwa Dumi, an innovative agricultural technology initiative designed to help farmers monitor their farms more efficiently.

As a beneficiary of the Wunti Al-Khair Foundation (WAKF), he gained access to the opportunity to participate in SVCG, a programme that equips innovative minds and offers the possibility of securing grants of ₦50–70 million.

Through Smart Farm IoT, farmers can remotely monitor farm activities, track farms located 50–100 kilometres away, and use sensors that measure soil moisture, humidity, and temperature to support better agricultural decisions.

He acknowledges the important role WAKF has played in bringing his dream closer to reality. However, he also highlights the need for greater representation from Bauchi State and the Northeast, noting that he was the only participant from Bauchi and one of just two representatives from the entire region.

His message to aspiring innovators is clear: take the opportunity while it lasts. With applications closing at the end of September, he encourages others to apply, pursue their ideas, and take a step towards turning their innovations into reality.

At WAKF, we believe that with the right opportunities and support, innovative ideas can grow into solutions that make a difference.

EBOLA: KNOW THE FACTS. PROTECT YOURSELF.

Ebola is a rare but severe viral disease that can spread through direct contact with the blood or body fluids of an infected person, or contaminated materials.

Knowing the signs, understanding how it spreads and taking preventive measures can help protect individuals, families and communities.

Early symptoms may include fever, fatigue, muscle pain, headache and sore throat, followed by vomiting, diarrhoea, rashes and, in severe cases, internal or external bleeding.

How can you protect yourself?

- Avoid direct contact with the blood and body fluids of anyone suspected of having Ebola.
- Do not handle items contaminated with infected body fluids.
- Practise good hand hygiene.
- Avoid handling or consuming bushmeat from unknown or unsafe sources.
- Seek immediate medical attention if you develop symptoms after a possible exposure.

Public awareness is a powerful tool in preventing the spread of infectious diseases.

Stay informed. Stay alert. Protect your community.

One Podium. Twenty Schools. A Generation of Voices.

Education goes beyond the classroom. It builds confidence, sharpens critical thinking, and empowers young girls to speak up on issues that shape their lives and futures.

In commemoration of the International Day of the Girl Child, the State-Level Interschool Adolescent Girls’ Debate brought together 20 schools, providing a platform for young girls to exchange ideas, challenge perspectives, and demonstrate the power of informed voices.

Now, the competition advances to the Grand Finale, where four schools will compete for the top spot at The Event Center. The event is open to the general public, and everyone is invited to witness these young minds in action.

Join us as we celebrate the power of education, the confidence of young girls, and the importance of creating opportunities for the next generation to learn, lead, and thrive.

Because educating a girl is not just about what she learns; it is also about the voice she gains and the future she can shape.
