Eagles Guidance

Learning to spread your wings takes courage. 🦅

This artwork tells the story of a young man finding his way, guided by the strength of his ancestors and the connection to Country that reminds him where he belongs.

The eagle carries that story—spreading its wings, trusting the journey and finding the courage to chase his dreams while walking with respect.

As I painted this piece, I reflected on my own journey. Where I’ve come from, what I’ve carried and how much I’m still learning.

Walk your journey. Walk in the footsteps of our ancestors. Carry their strength as you find your own way. 👣🤎

I don’t find it easy to let people see this part of me. Even writing it, I want to delete everything and say nothing.

But this is where I am.

I do love myself; I just struggle to feel that love some days. I look in the mirror and know the person looking back needs my kindness. He’s hurting, yet I keep asking him to do better without acknowledging how much he’s carrying.

So I’m learning to meet him differently: to listen to little Daniel when he’s scared instead of letting fear make my decisions, and to offer him the patience, safety and reassurance I’ve spent so long searching for elsewhere.

I’m still working through it. There are things I need to face, own and change. I don’t have a neat ending or all the answers, but I’m beginning to understand that healing doesn’t require me to pretend I’m fine. It asks me to stay present, be honest and keep choosing a kinder way forward.

Some days, that might mean painting again. Other days, it might simply mean getting through the day without turning against myself. Both matter.

I’m sharing this because someone else might be sitting quietly with thoughts they don’t know how to say out loud.

If that’s you, I hope this helps you feel a little less alone. You don’t have to have everything figured out or heal all at once to be worthy of love. There is still a way forward, even when you can’t see far ahead.

This is me being honest about where I am, even though it scares me to let you see it. For now, honesty is one small way I’m choosing not to abandon myself. 👣 #MentalHealthAwareness #HealingJourney #SelfCompassion #InnerChildHealing #Vulnerability EmotionalWellbeing YouAreNotAlone PersonalGrowth MensMentalHealth KeepGoing WalkaboutArtist by @walkabout_warriors_

Medicine Tree — As Above, So As Below

The medicine tree holds the stories of our Elders. Its roots reach deep into Country, carrying ancestral knowledge, while its branches stretch above, offering shelter and space for new life.

As above, so below—what grows strong is held by what came before.

The leaves hold connection, knowledge and healing. Beneath their shade, Elders gather with our young ones, sharing stories that keep culture alive. The footprints remind us that we walk together, nourished by our roots and responsible for the generations still to come. 👣🌿

Stories woven through my latest designs for NARI — the National Ageing Research Institute. 👣

These artworks speak to connection to Country, the wisdom of our Elders and the stories that bring generations together. Gathering circles and flowing waterways remind us that healing, belonging and knowledge grow through connection.

Proud to share culture through my art and honour those who continue to guide us.

A boy from a small country town, with big dreams and a weight no child should have to carry.

My story carries childhood sexual abuse, trauma and lived experience of mental health struggles. For years, I carried pain I didn’t know how to put into words.

Art gave that pain somewhere to go. Through colour, story and connection to culture, I began expressing what I had held inside. Creating became part of my healing. It saved my life.

Healing is still a journey for me. There are difficult days, but there is also purpose, connection and hope.

That is the heart of Walkabout Warriors. Every artwork holds a story, and sharing mine is a way of reaching someone who might be carrying their own pain in silence.

From that little boy with big dreams to the man still learning to heal, my story continues, one brushstroke, one conversation, one footstep at a time. 👣

Connecting through culture, creating through story.

I’m Daniel Evans, a proud Gamilaroi man and founder of Walkabout Warriors. Through my artwork, I share stories that bring culture, connection and community into the spaces where we learn, work and come together.

From original canvases and murals to artwork for Reconciliation Action Plans (RAPs), I work with businesses and schools to create meaningful pieces that reflect their journey and connection with our people.

My Connect to Culture artwork program also supports students and teachers, with a teacher guide to help bring cultural artwork and storytelling into the classroom. It’s an opportunity to explore creativity, express personal stories and build connection through learning.

Looking for a commissioned artwork, a mural, RAP artwork or a cultural artwork program for your school? Let’s yarn about what we can create together.

Proud to bring this story to life through my artwork for Brothers United Rugby League’s 2026 WA Harmony Nines jersey.

At its heart is brotherhood, culture and connection. The footprints carry journeys from different tribes and communities, coming together and walking as one.

The yarning circle represents unity, with the eagle guiding us and dingoes surrounding us in protection. The hammerhead shark carries strength and resilience through our waterways, while the mountains and black crow reflect our enduring connection to Country.

Our gathering places hold the knowledge of our ancestors, reminding us that every brother brings a story, and together we carry those stories forward.

From canvas to jersey, proudly wearing our stories. One team, connected through culture, standing together as brothers. 👣
