Istanbul—ancient, elegant, chaotic, kind. And food absolutely everywhere. A visit seems to exist in a whirlwind. We walked and walked, stop, stared, and crossed from Europe to Asia on a boat. When I travel, I often think, “Oh, this place reminds me of ….” Here in Istanbul, I have found no touchstones—it’s all new, intense, and twirling with dark people and cigarette smoke. A bizarre bazaar.

Simply the stuff of fairy trails and dreams. At #plitvicelakesnationalpark🇭🇷 , I kept expecting the elves of Rivendell to pop up around each corner and from behind the trees. This is simply one of the most stunning places I have ever seen, even with mist and clouds and a veil of rain.

Someone explain this one to me, please. Teeny house, teeny barge (really more like a kid’s floatie), teeny teeny boat, chugging across a very windy Richardson Bay from Raccoon Straits to Sausalito. One for the weird file.

Stick with me. This Alaskan brown bear cub found the perfect pre-nap plaything on a beach in Lake Clark National Park near Homer, AK.

Check it out! A cloud with legs! They look to me like the boots worn by the Wicked Witch of the West.
