Door knocking isn't just for election time.

So many people told me during the election that people only knock when they want your vote.

This stuck with me - and was something I'd experienced myself before deciding to run to be a councillor.

I committed to coming back if I was elected and today was the first session getting out to introduce myself, listening to residents concerns and talking about the work myself and the other green councillors have been doing in our communities.

People want to have a voice, they want to be heard and they want to feel like their councillors are working with them.

Thanks to my team and fellow councillor Sue Whitehead for joining me today. by @wansteadgreens

At our recent conference, Green Party members voted to pass the "Zionism is Racism" motion. We know this is a deeply sensitive issue, and that many residents, including some of our own members, have questions about what it means.

We recognise that people feel strongly for many reasons and positions.

We do not tolerate antisemitism, Islamophobia or any other form of racism, in our party or in our community.

The Redbridge Greens firmly believe that everyone in this borough deserves to feel safe, respected and welcome.

If you would like to talk, share your concerns or tell us what you need from us, we welcome the opportunity to listen, engage and ensure your voice is heard.

Please get in touch using the links in our bio, email us or your local councillors.

Our focus remains on the people of Redbridge. Listening, working with others, and delivering real change so that communities can live side by side in unity. by @wansteadgreens

Last night, Redbridge Council moved to shut down all future debate on pension fund divestment. They did not do this through open debate. They did it through a procedural trap.

Before the local elections, Labour rushed an "investment policy" through a special committee meeting. That entire meeting lasted ten minutes. Now, they are using that hastily drafted document as a shield to block any further discussion under council rules. Alongside @redbridgeindys, we proposed a motion to address the ethical implications of our pension investments. It was rejected.

This is not governance. This is a wrecking ball aimed at democratic debate.

The Greens believe in working across party lines where we can, and we’ve already shown that through our successful collaboration with the The Redbridge Independents.

We are ready to work constructively with other parties across the chamber too. We would have welcomed the opportunity to have a proper discussion, hear different perspectives and find a way forward that we could all support.

Instead, Labour chose to impose its position without giving us that opportunity. That is not the constructive, collaborative approach we believe residents deserve.

We were denied the opportunity to speak on this motion until late in the evening. But our position is clear: many residents voted for us because we put Palestinian human rights front and centre of our campaign. They expected us to hold the council accountable. Instead, Labour’s insistence that “little can be done” has revealed itself as learned helplessness dressed up as pragmatism.

We campaigned on change. We will not sit quietly while a ten-minute committee decision overrides the will of the people who elected us. We will continue to demand transparency, challenge these procedural manoeuvres, and keep this issue alive until it is properly addressed.

The vote is cast. The fight continues. by @wansteadgreens
