‘Cats Cradle’, 2009
Animation, @paulmartinstudio

‘A few years ago I met a young filmmaker and animator called Christina Alepi who I really liked and got on with terribly well - straight away. We seemed to speak in the same language about the escence of what l, of what we both thought a film or painting should be. And she did a remarkable little short animation in which she deconstructed an earlier painting, took out the rhythms and marks and elements of language and letter and sign from my painting and layered it up into an animated film... film which is also multi layered and is not just a series of static shots linked together by action, but is in fact action’ Paul Martin, c. 2010

Having been educated in both Scotland and her native Greece, the filmmaker and animator Christina Alepi went on to build an impressive international reputation for her work in the fields of film, video, tv and digital media. Having worked for clients such as the Acropolis Museum, Piraeus Bank, The Thessaloniki Film Festival and ENISA: The European Union Network and Security Agency, Alepi has at the same time pursued her interest in experimental filmmaking. She has twice been nominated for a Scottish BAFTA and her video installations have been shown in galleries in Edinburgh, Sydney and Athens.

The Velvet Underground, The Honeycombs and, umm, Karen Carpenter notwithstanding, the female drummer remains a rarity in rock'n'roll - but the Dandylions have one! Leather sandal thongs with hairy, hairy hobbit toes aren't that common either - but Bobby Murdoch has them! The man says that bands should have fixed line-ups but the Dandylions say that scene's getting old - they're way too fluid and groovy for that! The Dandylions are good looking rebels who play by their own rules, and they make a noise like this:

The Dandy(lions) in the Underworld - or at least Bobby Murdoch's sunny basement studio here in the Warburton Gallery - prepare to record their new album. Preparations when I visited clearly seem to largely involve sneaking off for a pint. #thatsrockandroll #emptystudio #DejaVoodoo #yesthealbumreallyiscalledthat #Iknow #warburtongallery #grassmarket #edinburgh #supportlocal #music by @warburtongallery

And so we enter endgame - this is the last few days of Daniel Domig's show here at the Warburton. Still time to pay it a visit... #TheHeartIsAPridefulBeast #exhibition #danieldomig #warburtongallery #grassmarket #edinburgh #gallery by @warburtongallery
