We welcome SILVER BIRCH to the Rose Hill for their album launch, 15 years in the waiting, and when we say we cannot wait we mean 𝐰𝐞.𝐜𝐚𝐧.𝐧𝐨𝐭.𝐖𝐀𝐈𝐓! You might know them as Acoustic Ladyland from back in the day - they are an absolute supergroup - legends of the scene - Pete Wareham (sax), Ruth Goller (bass), Seb Rochford (drums in the studio), Betamax (live drums) and Chris Sharkey (guitar) return with a new album 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡 𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐖𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧 𝐇𝐢𝐥𝐥 recorded in 2011. The group believed it was their strongest album to date, but their then-lalbel disagreed. The project was shelved and each continued forging musical paths in all directions. Now that album is being released by Kit Records and the band is celebrating by playing the songs live for the first time! 𝙈𝙐𝙎𝙊 𝙎𝙋𝙊𝙏𝙇𝙄𝙂𝙃𝙏 :: 𝙍𝙐𝙏𝙃 𝙂𝙊𝙇𝙇𝙀𝙍 We 🫶 Ruth - and we’re honoured to have had her play our space many times over the years in various guises including with post-jazz 4piece @LetSpin, Elliot Galvin and solo with her tours for albums Skylla and Skyllumina Hailed by the Guardian for her “thunderous bass-guitar hooks”, Ruth Goller is a bassist, vocalist, composer, environmentalist and solo artist. Goller helped lay the foundation for the UK’s jazz renaissance, from her years on stage with Acoustic Ladyland - now known as SILVER BIRCH - and @MeltYourselfDown and more whilst performing and recording with the likes of Shabaka Hutchings, Mercury-Award nominee Kit Downes, Sam Amidon, Rokia Traoré, Paul McCartney and many more. We’re very excited to welcome her back with Silver Birch and witness the unearthing of this long-lost record! “𝙎𝙠𝙮𝙡𝙡𝙪𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙖 𝙞𝙨 𝙖𝙣 𝙖𝙡𝙗𝙪𝙢 𝙗𝙮 𝙖𝙣 𝙖𝙧𝙩𝙞𝙨𝙩 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙖 𝙜𝙞𝙛𝙩 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙖 𝙫𝙞𝙨𝙞𝙤𝙣, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙙𝙤𝙚𝙨𝙣’𝙩 𝙧𝙚𝙬𝙖𝙧𝙙 𝙧𝙚𝙥𝙚𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝙡𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜 - 𝙞𝙩 𝙙𝙚𝙨𝙚𝙧𝙫𝙚𝙨 𝙞𝙩” Jane Cornwell - @Jazzwise FRIDAY 20 NOVEMBER | 7PM | Advance: £10-£12 ✰ 𝙩𝙞𝙘𝙠𝙚𝙩𝙨 𝙞𝙣 𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙨𝙩𝙤𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙨 + 𝙇𝙄𝘽 + 𝙬𝙚𝙗𝙨𝙞𝙩𝙚 ✰ 📷 1, by Herve Escario 📷 3,5 by Pedro Valasco by @warehampete

Tonight! Looking forward to this - have only played with @elliotgalvin a couple of times and have never played with @sebrochford or @electrobeard so will be fun to get to know them 😉 7:30ish by @warehampete
So excited to announce that Marco Antonio Guerra, our first single as Silver Birch, is out today. Named after a particularly mysterious and intense character in Roberto Bolaño’s epic novel 2666, the riff for this tune came into my head while I was leaning out @electrobeard and @alicealicegrant’s window in Deptford High Street late one night in early 2011. The riff felt like a cascade of bonkers merry-go-round mental ear worm neural labrinth spirals, which kind of sums up my state of mind at the time. Well excited to bring this out into the world, and we can’t wait to play it live. Thanks so much to @sebrochford @ruthgoller @chris_sharkey_music for amazing amazing playing, Sam Hobbs aka @rebel_elements for recording and mixing this and Richard Greenan @kitrecs for so much positivity and encouragement. Really hope you love it! by @warehampete
Very excited to be joined by one of my music heroes @warehampete for the @kitrecs show on @loose.fm today. Tune in from 5-7. by @warehampete
NEXT MONTH! Happy to announce that @o.the.band will be opening for Silver Birch (Pete Wareham, Ruth Goller, Betamax, Chris Sharkey) at @mothclub on November 21st @warehampete , @ruthgoller , @betamaxdrums , @chris_sharkey_music Tickets on sale now via Dice O. is baritone saxophonist Joe Henwood and drummer Tash Keary. As Pitchfork says, “O. forge a sound as unmistakable as their name is un Googleable” and in NME’s words “none of their predecessors come close to the guttural, visceral sounds uttered by the NME100 alumni.” The band has supported artists including Jack White, Gilla Band, and Black midi, and their debut album with producer Dan Carey was heavily praised by the likes of DIY, Dork, NME, Rough Trade, Stereogum, Clash and MOJO. They are working on their second album. -- In 2011, the plan for genre-destroying, trail-blazing punk-jazz upsetters Acoustic Ladyland was to re-emerge under the new name Silver Birch. After several years of constant touring and playing together, Pete Wareham (tenor saxophone), Chris Sharkey (guitar), Ruth Goller (bass) and Seb Rochford (drums) recorded what they felt was the strongest album the band had ever made. The label at the time disagreed, the project was shelved, and Wareham soon moved on to form Melt Yourself Down @meltyourselfdown 15 years later, that "lost" album - High on the Western Hill — is finally being released by Kit Records @kitrecs To mark the release, a new incarnation of Silver Birch featuring Max Hallett / Betamax (The Comet Is Coming @cometcoming ) on drums will perform the music live for the first time. The music captures the band at its most intense and exploratory: heavy grooves colliding with anthemic improvisation, mind-bending rhythmic virtuosity, extended song forms and euphoric saxophone lines. Rooted equally in post-punk energy, experimental rock and dynamic improvisation, the album now feels startlingly contemporary — a missing link between Acoustic Ladyland and the diverse compositional approaches that would later define the work of all four musicians. by @warehampete
