It’s time for one of our favorite nature based programs, our full moon hikes with Lake Forest Open Lands x Center for Conservation Leadership. These 3.1 mile hikes to the Lake Michigan Shoreline are a family friendly way to take in the moon rise. They’re also a great reminder of how connected we are to our natural world. RSVP on the website, and come through. by @weare_ccl
The Center for Conservation Leadership had a blast this morning with @waukegantocollege at @lfopenlands Mellody Farm Nature Preserve exploring wellness in the natural world. We spent time painting & sketching, forest bathing, investigating wetland critters and animal artifacts, nature journaling, and spotting birds! Until next time! • • • #natureforall #outside #nature #lakecountyil #explore by @weare_ccl
We are so proud of Noelani for all of her contributions to the natural world. From when we first met her as a high school student to now, she has always been the living embodiment of our Center for Conservation Leadership mission. We will continue to bring awareness and opportunities to our community, breaking down barriers to the natural world across Lake County and beyond! • • • #conservation #natureforall #youth #waukegan #lakecountyil by @weare_ccl

After two years of ideation and planning, we finally did it! @dripandculture x @weare_ccl Camping Trip 2026 was a success! Joined by 30 community members, we made group meals, joined @wiscobirder on a bird joy hike, examined the world of ethnobotany with @lfopenlands very own A.J. Morris, and made plenty of new friends and memories in the natural world. We look forward to next year! 😊 thanks to Illinois Coastal Management Program for their funding support of this program. • • • #natureforall #getoutside #camping #illinoisbeachstatepark #community by @weare_ccl
We are still coming down from the high of spending time camping with such an amazing group of people. Our first camping trip was such a success. Thank you to the individuals and families that joined us at the Illinois Beach State Park. Words cannot express how amazing it was to be in community you. A special thanks to Julia for believing in the vision and committing two years to figuring out the logistics. Thank you to Hannah, AJ, and all the amazing people that make up @weare_ccl x @lfopenlands . As always, it is an honor to hang with Dexter Patterson @wiscobirder as his joy of birding is infectious. We can’t wait to run this back. Don’t miss the next camping trip. It’s only going to get better. by @weare_ccl
Youth Environmental Leadership participated in stream monitoring in our Jean and John Greene Nature Preserve guided by Lake Forest Open Lands Director of Land Stewardship, Hillary Peters. Through gathering and identifying samples, sketching the landscape, and evaluating speed of the flow, we analyzed the health of the stream and surrounding ecosystems! One YEL Council member, Cassie, shared that this work, “is the job I want to do when I grow up!” YEL Council is for 7th - 12th graders throughout Lake County.
