WeSpeak.ie is a safe harbour for victims/ survivors to share THEIR story, in THEIR words, in THEIR time, THEIR way. It’s safe, secure and anonymous.

We’ve been blown away by the creativity of the contributions and wanted to bring that to life and spotlight this through collaborating with @fightingwordsireland. We ran a series of workshops in the genres of poetry, story writing, song writing and art/ illustration 🎤✍️🎨🖌️

Each story is different and so is how we express ourselves.

The 23 participants created their own work and group pieces, many performed and featured in our @culturenightdub performance and exhibition in the gorgeous @hensteethdublin

Thank you to everyone who helped bring this project to life. We are so grateful and honoured. ❤️

Check out some of the work and other experiences/ stories by visiting WeSpeak.ie today ✍️💬

Consent does not end when what happened to someone becomes public.

The Cornell 7 case has drawn widespread attention. At the centre of it is a person with a right to privacy, dignity and care. Once something this personal becomes a headline, a post or a debate, it can start to feel like public property. It never is.

How violence is experienced, and who gets believed, is shaped by race, gender, class, sexuality, disability, religion, migration status and power. Universities, media outlets and platforms decide whose voices are heard and which narratives get repeated. That power carries responsibility. So does ours.

Being a bystander does not stop when we go online. Every comment, repost and reaction shapes the environment around the person at the centre.

We want to direct attention towards the survivors, advocates and organisations already doing this work. Learn from them, follow them and support them.

As an advocacy organisation, we have a responsibility to speak and a responsibility to recognise where our authority ends. That is why we have consulted @WeConsent, a national campaign from the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre dedicated to promoting consent awareness through education, research, and community engagement.

Their survey gives people an opportunity and the space to share their views. Which in turn will help identify gaps in education, culturally competent , and shape more inclusive, community-led conversations and resources around consent. Check the link in bio to have your say.

If you have been affected by sexual violence, you deserve support, whenever you are ready for it. The Dublin Rape Crisis Centre’s 24-hour national helpline is free and confidential: 1800 77 8888.

Many people who see this post will carry their own experiences of sexual violence. Please keep them in mind in what you share, here and elsewhere. #cornell7 #consent #universities #blackandirish by @weconsentirl

"Shop still open?" This is what rape culture looks like in a group chat of 57 men.

What followed was the dehumanisation of Jane Doe by the Cornell 7 and it was tolerated by all 57.

It’s only because of mass student protests and independent reporting by the journalists of @CornellSun that this case of rape and degradation has resurfaced publicly. Because there were no arrests, the prosecution did not independently investigate and there were extensive structural institutional failures. Now the focus is on what Jane Doe drank and agreed to, instead of what was done to her.

The seven men accused of drugging and raping her that night in 2024 are now finally before the US courts, and our news and feeds are full of it.

In Ireland, we have seen similar cases and group chats. The culture that lets these attitudes go unchallenged is facilitating rapists and silencing victims.

If the news is hard for you to read at the moment, Dublin Rape Crisis Centre's free and confidential 24-hour National Helpline is here on 1800 77 8888. by @weconsentirl
