And just when I needed a temporary escape, Ake came again. The magic of community is hard to capture. When all the right ingredients are in place things just start to sparkle. It was wonderful to work with the wonderful people at the Book Buzz Foundation, Ouida, and my fellow covolunteers and dedicate ourselves to this for almost a week. I was able to meet so many people this time, but I'll have to be more intentional about photos in the future. The sparkles of Ake were only briefly captured in the above photos. I held off on posting them because I was hoping to get a photo from @osrm3n but maybe sometime soon. If you're interested in books, reading, writing, culture, conversationing, come to the next Ake arts and book festival 🫶🏿 by @wemimoyela
august had wonderful highs and subterranean lows. I'm so grateful for the gift of meeting and knowing people. on this day we gathered together with the people of @taxieditorial to read excerpts from Chiamaka's @chiamakaokike latest work, "Seeri", make dangerous tea blends very similar to potions, and talk and talk and talk. would do again :) by @wemimoyela
I had a great time yesterday night hosting and producing with the good people of @16by16 There was wonderful conversation, vulnerable reflections on grief, friendships, and relationships, within a beautiful and wholesome space. I'm so glad I got to work on this! Community and people are a big part what life are about for me. 📷: the amazing and wonderful Temiloluwa Johnson by @wemimoyela
