It’s easy to get caught up in the numerous challenges of daily life. Nature reduces all that noise and allows you to just be. by @wes.hattingh

#marievalebirdsanctuary has officially become the spot for malachites! This little friend was getting annoyed by a wagtail who didn’t seem to like them 😅 They watched the wagtail fly by and then raised their crest which I really do think make the perfect “grumpy face”! by @wes.hattingh

Red-knobbed Coot

I visited Marievale again this weekend and while it was very busy (looking at you guy who raced into the hide parking and ran to secure the last free seat in the hide 😶‍🌫️) it was great nonetheless.

This little wagtail was ignored by others in the hide but I think they are cute and I love the patterns in their plumage when you look closely.

Two malachite kingfishers on the same dead branch at #marievalebirdsanctuary today — and one of them was very busy. Watched it catch a grasshopper, beat it senseless, toss it back and swallow it head-first, then go straight back to hunting. These birds are tiny but they are absolutely ruthless. One of those mornings where you just settle into the hide and don’t move.
