Thank you for your work and your words, Patrick Martinez @patrick_martinez_studio by @whitetrashcurator

“Barbados-born artist John Alleyne makes silkscreen prints all wrong. Conventional wisdom dictates makers pull the inked squeegee smoothly to create a crisp and cohesive image. Alleyne instead alters the path of his hands to produce a trail of his errant, improvised motions, blurring his subjects into obscure, abstracted, and aqueous figures. Ribbon-river strokes hint at a figure akin to something like graffiti or handwriting.” -Emily Alesandrini

What a delight to work with Cambodian-Australian textile artist Linda Sok on this show. Our exhibition WARPED ARCHIVE is on view at the Brattleboro Museum of Art in Vermont through November 1. Much gratitude to the entire team at Brattleboro for this incredible opportunity and wonderful experience.

Thrilled to share the article "Homemaking and Remaking with Artist Brooke Pickett" for Slip magazine.

"Pickett paints textile on textile, honoring the base of the material itself as perhaps inherently 'feminine.' Her cacophonic subject matter points to the warp and weft of the canvas itself as an unseen or covered pattern most often taken for granted by the viewer. What might it mean to consider all painting on canvas as work in textile?"

*Slip art magazine* is a new arts writing platform of and for New Orleans @slipartmagazine I'm thrilled to be working as Slip's founding editor and so excited to share my first article for the new initiative.

Here's a snippet of "Dapper Bruce Lafitte Draws Above Sea Level", a review of Lafitte's solo exhibition on view at NoMA through September 21.

"During a studio visit this past April, Lafitte explained that when making a piece, he starts at the bottom of the page and works up. In this way, aeriality is also important in his process and not just the work’s imagery. At the top of many of his more recent works appears the text 'I SEE YOU LOOKIN', with a cheeky face and eyes in lookin’s o’s. Through the page, Lafitte stares back at any attempts of overseeing, but he also calls the viewer into the work with tender details and ever more vignettes of team sports, band practices, and krewes. The works are about collective participation, about memory and survival, and the 'us' in who comes next."

What an honor to be in conversation with the incredible Didier William for this P.6 catalogue essay. Can't wait to continue the discussion, in person and on the page.

"Historically, the tree is both a site of settler colonialism, plantation, and lynching, but it is also a place of leisure, a respite from heat, a being that enables breathing. William presents the tree not as a resource for capitalist, extractive profit, but as a living, knowing, and seeing titan beyond and more than human. In this work and throughout the artist’s practice, William visualizes new ways of knowing the body as inextricable from plant and place." -EA

Only a few days left to see Sadie Sheldon's solo show 𝒷𝓇𝒾𝑒𝒻𝓁𝓎 at Sibyl Gallery. What a delight to delve into Sheldon's practice for this exhibition review with Burnaway. ✨🔮

“Engaging with folks she meets by happenstance, subsequent card readings involve a roll of two eight-sided dice, a coin flip, and what often evolves into an intimate conversation and personal reflection. Is Sheldon a game maker? An unlicensed therapist? Are her card readings performance art or free public programming?”
