Drawing portraits of strong women because god knows women need strength after seeing the horrifying news this week. by @why.sanj.art

Custom playing cards!! (only 5/52 done so far clearly so long way to go...)

It's been a fun challenge trying to paint the elaborate ideas I have in head onto such a tiny canvas 🙃

With watercolour, once the paint is on the paper, changing it isn't easy. I painted the lips wrong and it didn't look anything like my reference - the Oppenheimer poster - so I was pretty demotivated. Since everyone's made mistakes with watercolour before I thought I'd share a few things that helped me with it today:

1. Take a break (a couple hours) from painting. After staring at your own work for so long it can become hard to identify whats wrong and how to fix it

2. After I had taken a break, I covered up the lips with thickish paint in the skin tone. If you add a lot of water, you won't be able to cover up the mistake.

3. Once the paint had dried I repainted the lips and added details with white.

Honestly I still don't feel too good about the painting because it was just damage control after a point. I'd like to be good enough at watercolour to not need to use white paint for highlights - the white of the canson paper itself is best. Anyway, I will be practicing watercolour a bit more now so I'll continue to share that here. I hope this was helpful, I wasn't sure if it was worth sharing. Have a nice day 🥰

Oppenheimer medium 1 - ballpoint pen sketch

Thinking of doing watercolor and maybe charcoal or acrylic next, any suggestions?

• You will become more sensitive to the amount of pressure you exert with your hand since with pen (ballpoint) to get a light shade you have to exert very little pressure and this will help if/when you switch back to pencil sketching

• It's convenient and less messy since there's no sharpening or smudging involved

• Since you won't be able to rely on smudging techniques to make the drawing look smooth, you'll end up developing a better understanding of shade and highlights which comes of use when drawing or painting with any medium

These are just tips from my experience so let me know if y'all found this useful! Have a nice day 🥰
