When we practice our indigenous food and knowledge systems we can find our purpose and calling. We all have a place in this world. I love talking about this stuff 🌎 🍃

After a month in Europe doing indigenous peoples advocacy work, it felt great to do be back in the Minnesota bush. First stop was the powerful bog. Bonus points to whoever can Identify the plants I am gathering in the video. Comment below 👇 by @wiisinigllc

A chef should aspire to go beyond cooking delicious food. Chefs have the power to change and transform the food systems itself. Chefs have so much influence, including shaping consumer demand, supply chains, educating the public, and advocating for policy reforms. Let’s choose good and support those who also choose good

One reason I love doing “plant walks” is that when more folks learn about the land, they become invested, have “skin in the game”. Simple plant walks create more advocates for a promising future

Ouuhh how I was having fun telling spooky ndn stories to @indied_one91 to get the youth geared up for halloween season. I told one tradish story that is about a young boy and two sisters. If you listen closely there are a lot of teachings including but not limited to traditional ecological knowledge, medicine, gender roles, and more. Also these stories have great references. In this story, there is a scene about stick ball (lacrosse). Then I told two personal bush stories. Not a big fan of the snow and cold but I do look forward to our winter stories/legends in the coming months

I spent my Monday evening at Four Sisters Urban Farm learning the traditional art of fowl processing with community members and leaders from Dream of Wild Health and the Indigenous Food Network. This was their first workshop in their Fish, Fowl, and Fauna - Animal Processing series! It was a beautiful, grounding space centered on cultural education and food sovereignty.

We had the incredible privilege of learning from knowledge keeper Derek Nicholas (Red Cliff Band Ojibwe), who shared teachings on traditional harvesting, seasonal ecology, and our reciprocal relationship with the land and water.

Every step was taught with patience and deep respect to honor the animal and ensure every part was used.

We got hands on processing beautiful, farm raised Duclair ducks from Lucky Lavender Farm, a queer-owned farm in Faribault doing incredible work with their sustainable poultry CSA.

As the sun went down, we cooked over open fire. We paired our roasted birds with a cranberry, apple, and orange sauce that we made.

This was my first time eating duck, it was so juicy and tender! The meal was perfectly paired with comforting soup and cedar berry tea from Powwow Grounds.

This evening was a beautiful reminder that ancestral knowledge, ecosystem stewardship, and community care are deeply intertwined.
I’m so grateful for this space of connection and learning. 🦆
