501 project 02 final. DESIGN:SOCIAL Rudimentary joinery methods create a disarmingly off-kilter gallery core, with nooks for display and conversation that feel intimate, like inhabiting a joint itself. DESIGN:SOCIAL imagines the impromptu assembly of Enzo Mari’s Sedia 1 chair as common space. To properly disperse the democratic ideals of the Sedia 1 chair, a gallery enshrouds the unassuming work of Enzo Mari, with built-in bookshelves from his autoprogettazione and life-sized recreations of the puzzle-like, scrap-derived 16 Animali. An off-kilter breezeway, exposed seams throughout, and pedestrian construction materials such as precast concrete pipes and CLT blanks make legible the loose-fit, but entirely considered, approach in Mari’s furniture. Pass through into the furthest room from the entrance, and you might find quiet organizers discussing the next big thing in DIY-design, or perhaps simply enjoying a beer with a friend. Socialization lies at the core of Mari’s ethic: what might change if design belonged in the hands of the commons? advisor @daniel.alexis.garcia by @williamreedputnam
