Françoise Kirkland has been a mentor to me as much as @douglaskirkland_ and the two of them helped guide my path since I met them while I was in highschool. She is so intensely passionate, loving and loyal to those around her. There is a magic in everything she does. We have had a lot of adventures together and being around her always makes me want to be, do, love, and create better. I took this photo at her home @douglaskirklandstudio after one of her magical dinners #francoisekirkland #douglaskirkand #portrait #headshot #photography by @williamthorenphotography

An honor to meet and photograph the legendary Neal Slavin. Hugely inspired by his work and blown away by his mastery of photographing groups of people. He has a quality to his work that makes you feel uplifted by our collective humanity. @nealslavinfilm made a documentary about @nealslavin working in Portugal in the 1960’s documenting life under the dictatorship of António de Oliveira Salazar. If you want to see some of this work in person there is an upcoming exhibition in Paris at @mindseye_paris that starts on Oct 24th #nealslavin #photographer #photography #nealslavinfilm #nealslavinstudio by @williamthorenphotography

I took this one a while back when George Clinton came to LA and @douglaskirkland_ let us borrow his studio for the day. I had introduced the two a few years earlier and Douglas took some amazing shots of George with an 8x10 view camera. Many of the studio looking portraits I’ve taken of George have been in hotel rooms and dressing rooms on the road. Something Douglas always said was “a studio is a state of mind”, and I have lived by that. It’s also really nice to work in a real studio, especially one built by Douglas. I may have never gotten the gig touring with George had I not learned the art of portraiture from Douglas. This was a full circle magical moment for me to work photographing one mentor in front of the other @yolikegeorge Honk!🪿 @coise43 @douglaskirklandstudio #GeorgeClinton #funkadelic #parliament #funk #pfunk by @williamthorenphotography
