Which one are you adding to your travel itinerary? by @willtravelforlattes

30 independent bookstores in 31 days 🤩

I had so much fun participating in the North Texas Indie Bookstore Crawl! I ended up visiting 23 of the 24 stores on my passport.

Add to that 5 bookstores outside the DFW area plus 2 in Mexico City.

My tbr pile grew by 30 books this month and I met a lot of fellow readers and supporters of our indie bookstores! 🫶🏻

This Edinburgh coffee shop has been on my list to visit for a while, and I have to say I’m sorry I didn’t make it there sooner. I loved everything about it, from the iced latte in a cute pineapple glass to the sign outside the bathroom. 🫶🏻

The next time you are in the area stop in @bastardbaristacoffee for a latte, or whatever coffee you are drinking these days.

Have you been to Edinburgh? It’s one of my favorite places! by @willtravelforlattes

Scottish history is fascinating to me, and I love visiting the places that I’ve read about in historical fiction books that are based there.

Our visit to Perth and Kinross began in Perth. From there we made our way to Scone Palace, and then continued on to nearby Dunkeld.

A few of our favorite things here included:
@thetaybank (riverside gardens outdoor dining)
@sconepalace (crowning place of 42 Scottish kings)
Hinterland Coffee (10 St Johns Place, Perth)

Have you been to any of these places? Would you like to go?

Alnwick, pronounced Anick (rhymes with panic), in Northumberland is a lovely town a little over thirty miles south of Berwick-upon-Tweed and the border of Scotland.

Stop in @the_origami_cafe for a latte before popping across the street to buy a book (or two) from @forumbookscorbridge (The Accidental Bookshop).

If second hand books are your thing, @barterbooksuk is one of the largest second hand shops in the UK.

After you explore @alnwickcastleofficial (built sometime before 1138 when the first written record found mentions it by name, and featured in numerous films and tv shows including Harry Potter and Downton Abbey) head to @granniesofalnwick for lunch and a cup of tea.

Have you been to Alnwick? If not, which of these places are you adding to your list for when you do visit?

There were a few things that just didn’t go well the morning we went to Bartons Yard Cafe, but the food and coffee here more than made up for it.

My six year old was in a mood and was putting forth his best effort to make things difficult. He was tired. We had already been traveling for a week and had spent the previous day at my sister’s wedding, so I get it.

We couldn’t seem to remember the way to the car park where we had left our car. In the end we used a luggage tag left in one of our bags to find our way. Handy thing, luggage tags!

Anyway, if you are ever in Carlisle you should definitely stop in. I’m glad we did!

We recommend:

Coorie (ku:ri) enjoying life the Scottish way Gaelic translation to nestle or snuggle, to be cosy

If you asked me to choose a village in Scotland as my favorite, Limekilns would definitely be in the running.

Located just outside Edinburgh, Coorie by the Coast is a lovely little hotel and café with beautiful views of the River Forth.

We enjoyed our stay at the hotel and breakfast in the cafe, as well as walking the coastal path, dinner at @the_ship_inn_limekilns and drinks at @thebrucearms

It’s been a minute since I shared anything beyond a story here, but that doesn’t mean I haven’t been out there exploring local coffee shops.

This one was a favorite the last time we were in Scotland!

Prost Coffee
📍11 Maygate, Dunfermline, Scotland

Located inside Abbot House, a historic building dating back to the 16th century, this independent coffee shop was the perfect place to enjoy lunch before we explored Dunfermline Abbey and Palace.

Some of Scotland’s greatest medieval monarchs were laid to rest at the abbey, including Robert the Bruce.
