We are pleased to announce that @willyu0131 is part of the Apanage Month Larnaka 2026.

The curation looks for work that makes a claim on a stranger who was not looking for art: no wall text, no catalogue, no prepared audience, and a position that does not need context to be felt.

Will YU is a Taiwanese painter who works in oil on the human figure. Overlapping figures, shifting movement and layered colour capture several states of mind within a single moment, some areas sharply defined, others dissolving into loose, unfinished forms. His current series, The Last Companionship, explores what remains irreplaceable in the connection between a human and a horse in an age of artificial intelligence.

He believes a painting holds its ground when it can move someone without requiring an explanation, and that a quiet expression can hold more power than a dramatic statement. On a billboard, the work meets someone who never intended to encounter art, and may offer a brief moment to recognize a feeling they have been carrying.

The Apanage Month runs for the full month of December 2026 in Larnaka. Every curated work stays on the billboard for the entire month.

Where We Begin Again, 162x130cm, oil on canvas, 2026. (SOLD)

I never wanted this series to end with an answer.

The hand reaches beyond the painting, not to return to the past, but to invite us forward.

Technology will continue to change us. Perhaps the question is simply what we choose to carry with us.

When Everything Falls Apart, 162x130cm, oil on canvas, 2026. (SOLD)

There comes a moment when knowing more no longer gives us the answer.

We reach outward, we look upward, we search for something beyond what can be measured or controlled.

Perhaps the deepest questions begin exactly where certainty ends.

Where Reason Learns to Yield, 162x130cm, oil on canvas, 2026. (SOLD)

As technology becomes increasingly capable of thinking for us, I keep wondering what should remain ours.

Reason can take us further than ever before, but instinct, vulnerability, trust, and empathy belong to another language.

Somewhere between the two, we are still learning what it means to be human.

The Quiet Beginning, 162x130cm, oil on canvas, 2026. (SOLD)

Before technology entered the conversation, there was simply trust.

A touch, a glance, a quiet understanding between two living beings. I began this series here, with something that cannot be measured or calculated.

Perhaps intelligence does not begin with knowing more, but with learning how to feel another life.

Life is a process of forging.
Only through repeated tempering can something clear and radiant emerge.

Yet life is less a moment of brilliance than a continual shaping.
Movement often happens against the wind.
The three afterimages in the painting are not repetition but displacement in time.
The first receives the force of the wind.
The second adjusts breath within resistance, refining the self.
The third continues toward the destination.

After countless refinements, what remains is not light,
but the ability to walk forward while facing the wind.

Art Karlsruhe. 5 - 8 Februar 2026.

Unwilling to Be Defined, Oil on canvas, 145.5x112cm, 2025.

She appears mid transition.
Curlers still in her hair.
A moment before the world finishes its sentence.

Her raised finger does not resist.
It suspends.
An instinctive pause, claimed from within.

Hands gather around her.
Not violent.
Just persistent.
The familiar language of shaping, naming, correcting.

She does not answer them.
Her gaze stays where presence begins.

This work is not about refusal.
It is about origin.
About the instant identity exists before it is agreed upon.

Unfinished is only a surface condition.
What matters has already arrived.

Thank you sincerely to ARP GALERIE for the invitation.

This is a projection of life philosophy. In the painting, the figure is captured in the continuous motion of a golf swing. Each rise, turn, and stroke symbolizes the autonomous choices and personal responsibility inherent in the journey of life. The path is never predetermined; every step must be carved by oneself, and every decision fully owned, much like the spirit of golf, where the challenge is always with oneself rather than simply defeating others.

While not a direct likeness, the character draws conceptual inspiration from figures like Grace Charis, whose confident presence and dedication to golf evoke the spirit of female autonomy and inner resilience. It is this psychological force, rather than her physical image, that served as a catalyst for the work’s emotional direction. @itsgracecharis ☺️

Every departure in life is a challenge into the unknown. Each swing represents confidence and mastery over the future. Life’s course is never just a single track; whether smooth or turbulent, it is all part of life’s practice. And never forget, there is always the next course to play.

The interaction between horse and rider lies at the heart of this work, conveying a form of understanding and spiritual connection that transcends language. In the rider’s repeated actions of saddling and tightening the reins, the viewer can sense the gathering of energy and focus before departure, while the horse’s gaze follows the owner’s movements, revealing a silent comprehension and trust.

The piece explores the essence of trust: it requires no verbal affirmation, relies on no external command, but arises naturally through shared experience and mutual perception. Even before setting off, trust has quietly arrived. This moment reminds us that in everyday human interactions, true understanding often goes beyond appearances, and heartfelt perception surpasses words.

《The Language of Trust》, 65x53cm, oil on canvas, 2025.

We are pleased to announce that @willyu0131 participate in the APANAGE DAYS Cyprus 2025.

The cyprus curation highlights artists who understand visibility as opportunity – using the public space as a bridge between physical impact and digital reach.

Will Yu is a Taipei-based painter whose hyperrealistic and expressive oil portraits explore the tension between inner emotion and external perception. With a Ph.D. in Philosophy and a Master’s degree in Fine Arts, his academic and artistic backgrounds converge in works that are as technically masterful as they are conceptually profound. His brushwork bends realism with distortion, creating hauntingly beautiful depictions of the human condition – at once intimate and theatrical.

At Apanage, we curate the artist behind the work and the vision they aim to create.

The Apanage Days are milestones in building a global network of billboards toward our vision of Apanage Global.
For twenty-four hours, every screen in the world will display art simultaneously.
Together we will create the most visible art moment in history.

Welcome to Apanage.

„Not Your Grandfather’s Art. But It Deserves To Be.“

If your work speaks this language, we welcome your submission through the form in our bio.
