Mail day! 📫 I recently purchased a small lot of Shiner CDs on ebay because, unfortunately, their albums are very difficult to find on CD nowadays. I am now the proud owner of 3 CLASSICS! If you’re a fan of spacey post-hardcore/grunge, you GOTTA give this band a listen! 🪐🚀 Shiner if you’re watching, you need to reissue all your albums on CD! 🙏 by @wiltmusic
Mail day! 📫 Bought some Dungeon Synth CDs and got them just in time for Halloween! Shout out to Depressive Silence and their beautiful music 😌 by @wiltmusic
💿 “crawling into you” by Ulyssescfm 💿 Getting local with today’s post! Ulyssescfm is a great Bay Area band with a knack for writing simple yet emotive songs. There’s a lot of bands I admire that compose songs with tons of parts, pieces, notes, and movements to adequately articulate a specific feeling. But sometimes, 4 chords is all you need and if done effectively, you can still create something powerful and moving. This is exactly what makes Ulyssescfm special! All of their songs hit so hard and are so evocative that I’m blown away by their simplicity. You can just feel everything in the chord progressions they choose whether it be longing, bittersweet, reflective, or some other variation of sadness. A notable highlight is the vocals which is delivered with such a rough anguish that you can tell it’s coming straight from the heart. This is the band’s most recent release which I was able to get at their show in Oakland the other weekend. I’d been wanting to see them for a while and was not disappointed! If you’re a fan of grunge and slowcore and enjoy bands like Sugar, Codeine, and Bedhead, this is an album for you. by @wiltmusic
Mail day! 📪 Got nice little delivery from the good people at @rvngintl / @freedomtospend today. Emily A. Sprague is my current favorite ambient artist so I couldn’t help but to get a bunch of her CDs! Do yourself a favor and give her a listen. Her music is just lovely 😌 by @wiltmusic
💿 “come back down” by total wife 💿 The shoegaze revolution is still alive and well with so many bands pushing the boundaries of the genre with this album being one of the best to come out in 2026. But calling it simply shoegaze doesn’t fully describe it’s complex sound. Elements of glitch, slowcore, drum & bass, hyperpop, ambient and breakcore are heavily peppered into their already hazy sound topped off with plenty of glide guitar and washed out vocals. Moments sound like Duster, moments sound like the gnarlier side of Aphex Twin, and moments sound like My Bloody Valentine’s “Touched” or “You Made Me Realise.” It’s a demented collage of dreamy noise that’s completely addicting and a perfect example of young 90s obsessed musicians taking elements of their favorite pre-Y2K sounds and trying to make something new out of it. It may sound derivative, but the end result honestly sounds modern and completely unique. I’m loving what I’m hearing from new shoegazers and hope they continue the experimentation. If we keep getting albums as good as this, then I’d say we’re doing something right! by @wiltmusic
💿 “Magic Mirror” by Pearl Charles 💿 My co-worker recently hipped me to this album the other day and I quickly became obsessed with it! Though Pearl is contemporary, her music has such a warm vintage sound. Imagine an amalgamation of ABBA, Bruce Springsteen, Graham Parsons, and the Carpenters and you have Pearl Charles. There’s something about that 70’s cosmic country-pop sound that I find oh so addicting- especially when listening to on a warm night. The moment I heard a few tracks on here I knew I had to buy it. Fun fact: Pearl’s father, Larry Charles, was a writer for Seinfeld and directed the films Borat, Bruno, and The Dictator. I guess that makes Pearl a bit of a nepo baby... regardless, her music rules! by @wiltmusic
💿 “Linda’s Head” by Helen 💿 Never thought I’d see this happen but HELEN IS BACK!!! I’m a huge fan of Liz Harris and have enjoyed every project she’s done. While Grouper is my favorite, Helen is a close second. It’s essentially her doing shoegaze but with her iconic heavenly vocals. The band released 1 amazing record back in 2015 then virtually disappeared afterwards. 11 years later, they’re back with new material and I couldn’t be more grateful! 🥲 by @wiltmusic
Spooky season is upon us! Here’s some spooky CDs to get you into the spooky mood 🎃 by @wiltmusic
💿”Strangers From The Universe” by Thinking Fellars Union Local 282 💿 I find it extremely hard to believe that I saw this band live last night but I guess anything is possible. The Fellars are one of San Francisco’s most legendary bands in the alternative and punk world. In the late 80s, they released a few very strange sounding records with blown out instruments and complex rhythm changes-not the most commercial sounding stuff. Yet somehow the band managed to sign with Madator in the 90s and even play shows with Nirvana further propelling their reach. But while the band had “made it”, so to speak, not everyone was necessarily into what they were doing. Their music was just too weird compared to other alt/indie acts that were being signed thanks to Nirvana’s success. As the 90s progressed, the Fellars activity diminished and they would release their final studio album in 2001 (no longer on Matador either). Time is an amazing thing, however because despite their success-not success, the cult following the band achieved kept growing. To the point where last night’s show was completely sold out! The audience contained a unique mixture of older SF punks and much younger aspiring musicians all singing along together. Plus to everyone’s delight, the band played 2 sets that went late into the night consisting of virtually everything they’d done. It was pretty incredible. The Fellars are definitely the “your favorite band’s favorite band”- type but that doesn’t belittle what they’ve done. Their music, though weird, is interesting and a perfect example of how creative San Francisco bands were in the 80s and 90s. Grateful I got to see them perform in person and grateful I have this CD seeing as they’re becoming harder to find nowadays... by @wiltmusic
Sometimes, the Japanese release is just better 😁 This is just a selection from my collection. I have plenty more to make a part 2 😅 by @wiltmusic
💿”no scope/Extra Life” by crushed💿 I am thrilled to be in possession of this CD! This was of 2025 AOTY that seemingly came out of nowhere. The day of its release, I bought it on a whim and fell completely head over heels with it. I loved the hybrid of dream pop, downtempo, shoegaze, and trip hip which also perfectly encapsulated the kind of music that’s currently trending. It even got me to go see them live when they played Cafe Du Nord to a small but enthusiastic audience. I have now become a mega fan. In addition to ‘no scope’, the band also has an EP called ‘Extra Life’ which is just as good (if not better) than the album. Unfortunately the only physical releases of the EP is on cassette and 12”, no CD. Always a bummer to see but I’m fairly used to it. That was until I discovered the Japanese CD version of ‘no scope’ which features the EP as bonus tracks! It was a no brainer, I had to get it! Thanks to sites like CDJapan, I was able to get a copy for a relatively reasonable price even with shipping. Very happy to have both these masterpieces on 1 disc. Check this band out if you haven’t done so already. They are amazing and I hope they continue to make more music because what they currently have is stellar! by @wiltmusic
