In collaboration with ArteEast, thrilled to present the film program Syrian films : REVOLUTION OF THE WIND. The two-part program features Syrian autobiographical fiction and documentary films exploring migration, grief, memory and history following the political instability of the Arab Spring. The series features the work of Reem Al Ghazzi, Ammar Obeid, Yazan Rabee, Samer Najari, Meyar Al Roumi, Afraa Batous, Eyas Almokdad, Émilie Serri, Wael Kadlo. Screening Online for FREE on artearchive.org from April 11 - 21 (Part 1) & April 21 - 30 (Part 2) https://www.eventbrite.com/.../revolution-of-the-wind... Screening in-person at IAIA (New York) on April 21 https://artearchive.eventive.org/schedule Within this program, the wind is understood to be the central metaphor that represents destiny. Whether through unleashing its wrath, or by leading in flight, the wind is an element that guides the lives of countless people in ways unseen. Primarily shot across North America and Europe, the films present deeply humanizing narratives of Syrian experiences, shedding light of the contradictions and irreconcilable realities of longing for a past that haunts the present. REVOLUTION OF THE WIND is curated by Ahmad Alhaj and presented by ArteEast. This program is part of the legacy program Unpacking the ArteArchive, which preserves and presents 20 years of film and video programming by ArteEast. #syrianianfilm #revolutionofthewind #syrianfilmmakers @wind.cinema @ammado_wind @a.o_magazine @yazan.rabee_ @samernajari @waelkadlo @afraabatous @eyas_almokdad @emilieserri @lifeiscinemawith_razan @reem_alghazzi_ by @wind.cinema

I’m happy to share that "Estahbes / If Only The Year Had 364 Days" will be part of this year’s Duisburger Filmwoche. I’m glad to have the opportunity to discuss and question the film at a festival known for its commitment to documentary cinema and the importance it gives to the conversations around it.
Jafaaf / On The Dry Bank Of The River has received the Bassel Shehadeh Award for Best Director at the 1st edition of the Homs Short Film Festival in Syria. The award is named after Syrian filmmaker Bassel Shehadeh, who was studying film directing in the US and decided to return to Homs at the beginning of the Syrian revolution to document the events, bombardments and siege. He was killed in Homs on 30 May 2012, aged 28. By Assad’s bombing. I was in Damascus at the time and travelled to Homs to attend his funeral. 14 years later, my film has been screened in Homs and received an award carrying his name. I find it very emotional and difficult to put into words what this means to me. Thank you to everyone who made this film and this moment possible. @homs.shorts @kunsthochschulefuermedien @wind.cinema @yakob.eldeeb @youssefbmahfouz @fatinalaila @mhd.wahid.albarzawi @mhd.dibo @leen.kayyali @ahed_deeb by @wind.cinema
