POSTS STORIES REELS
Edward Alan Gross has developed a bold and graphic language that moves between his paintings and functional wood work. A circle – the most elemental of shapes - is repeated and overlapped in a pattern language of graphic flowers, clouds, bubbles, or air itself.  This recurring motif becomes an expression of life. Like an oversized cell, it commands our attention and invites a cyclical connection between material and subject. Through sculptural evolutions of wood and expressive paintings of forest creatures, Gross crafts work that is arresting, unusual and distinct. In his paintings, pattern creates the atmosphere and environments housing birds and other wildlife – many times interacting with each other – and always larger than life. There is a thoughtful intimacy and relatability to every subject. His animals are full of personality, and they express powerful emotions like awareness, confidence, and joy.   In his wood work, the conversation between artist and nature is on full display. Working only with salvaged materials, Gross’ hand-carved pieces are formed intuitively – and remain organic and wild. His signature motif signals a structural but clever repair - contrasting tones and textures of varying wood species to decorative result through placement and repetition. Fallen trees (like a red oak from the front lawn of the VMFA) and abandoned stumps are transformed, respected, renewed. Even walnut dust is mixed with resin to secure hairline cracks. Nothing goes to waste – like nature itself. • • • • • Image 1, 5 & 6: Ironwood pedestal bowl with poplar and walnut inlay, 15.5 x 16 inches Images 2-4: The Pool, oil on panel, 36 x 48 inches (Sold) Images 7 & 8: Pocket Full of Starlight, oil on panel, 50 x 18 inches Images 9-11: Red oak footed bowl with poplar and walnut inlay Images 12-14: Only, oil on panel, 42 x 18 inches Images 15-18: Elm footed bowl with poplar and walnut inlay, 19.5 x 8.75 inches @edward.alan.gross by @with.boon
Le Kelaca à Ellora by @markeanesart gets its title from one of the many pieces of ephemera layered in this compelling large-scale work. Eanes’ distinct approach to formalism incorporates elements of color theory, texture and a merging of organic and geometric shapes. With this recent work he breaks the plane of his meticulous and textural abstraction with a bold red flourish and a contrasting calm botanical. In its scale and complexity, new details and discoveries can be found with each viewing. On display through November 1. · · · · · Le Kelaca à Ellora Mixed media on panel 60 x 60 inches by @with.boon
NEW WORK by SPEE, Oona Schreur and Melissa Rieg SPEE’s work is imbued with a rough-hewn aesthetic and a punk undercurrent and often incorporates reclaimed gemstones informed by her sustainable interests. Her newest work expands on her signature process-driven aluminum cast forms with badge pendants and adjustable cuffs. @s.pee.23 Oona Schreur has fabricated bangles, hair pins and rings adorned with charms – a nod to serious play, exploring scale and movement with evident restraint. Hammer details and folded metals highlight purposeful imperfections that are at once textural, subtle, and distinctly modern. @oonaschreur Melissa Rieg continues her exploration of unique natural materials, incorporating ammonite fossils, baroque pearls, and dendritic agate into one-of-a-kind compositions. Her combination of organic matter and refined metalwork makes every piece a modern veneration to the natural elements. @mel.rieg.studio by @with.boon
Black Dog, Blue Landscape by Agnes Grochulska A solitary figure sits with a black dog wearing a protective cone, creating a quiet moment of vulnerability and companionship. The heavily textured, layered surface presents a space between reality and imagination. The surrounding landscape unfolds as a dreamlike environment where foreground and background intertwine. Thick, expressive brushstrokes blur the boundaries between the figure and the fantastical world around them, suggesting an emotional landscape as much as a physical one. Oil on canvas, 24 x 30 inches, framed. @agnesgrochulska by @with.boon

ELIZABETH FEW Textile artist, @elizabethfewstudio revels in the interplay between silk and natural light. As its title suggests, “Phosphorescent” comes alive in the light. Few’s combination of emerald tones and metallic dyes creates a surface radiance that feels verdant and delicate. That lustrous shimmer contrasts against shadows from layered fabric, and through frayed edges and splayed threads, Few marries texture and pattern into compositions that are subtle, meditative, and alive. There is a reverence for both material and nature at the heart of Few’s work. “Doorway to the Willow” elevates a traditional textile form into a lush, organic, pattern that pulls the viewer in and invites reflection. Her creative process is itself tethered to generations of women working in textiles, and through her distinct, expressive style, Few honors that maternal relationship between fabric and the hands that manipulate it. by @with.boon

ANDRAS BALITY @andrasbalitystudio is a classically trained plein air painter whose prolific career spans nearly forty years. Stylistically reminiscent of post-impressionists like Vuillard and Bonnard, Bality’s precise, delicate brushwork, simplified, shape-driven forms, and vibrant color palettes are a testament to his mastery of oil. There is a restrained confidence to his compositions. Dynamic pops of color and movement are balanced with moments of quiet that allow the eye to settle and to breathe in the whole. He has a profound devotion to the natural world. We particularly love his ability to capture nature while distilling its inherent busyness. He filters the noise of daily life and immerses us in quiet moments of beauty and emotional resonance. In doing so, we join him in this communion between observer and nature. · · · · · 1 Rockhopper, 30 x 24 in. (Sold) 2 & 3 Monhegan Bathers Redux, 10 x 12 in. (Sold)

Mound is happy to present her first collaboration with Angeline Robertson of Boon and jeweler Oona Schreur. Our flat file and display pulls from medieval visions of asceticism and religious study. Solid Douglas Fir imparts just enough weight to keep its structure in tension. Oona’s hollow hammered copper pulls evoke winding vines at the mouths of caves, or standard stoppages.
