Some more crazy difficult George Lewis. I thought this clip was particularly musical :)

Been on a bit of a hiatus from posting recently due to being overwhelmed with academic work. I have a few clips to share from my performance of George Lewis's piece Oraculum for solo trombone. This piece is one of the most challenging pieces I've ever attempted and I was quite pleased with how the performance went and the feedback that I received afterwards. This particular clip showcases some flutter tonguing in the extreme high range which was difficult for me due to the oral cavity narrowing when you play up there and also my tongue being larger than average. Anyways, I'll share some more clips of this later and then I've got some big things coming up so stay tuned!

Bravo to DMA trombonist, Wesley Nielsen (@wntrombone) performing George Lewis’s very challenging “Oraculum” on the composer portrait concert! A wonderful performance including just about every extended technique imaginable. Well done!

Practicing resonance with split tones 🔥

As with a lot of things that I practice, this isn’t really a useful skill for 99.9% of trombonists, but for the 0.1% that really dig contemporary music 🙋🏼‍♂️ this is cool 😎
I think my ability to produce a decent split tone has improved from about 30% to maybe 85% accuracy in the past year and I’m really having fun with the sounds it can create

Come with me to see the Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra play Don Quixote 🔥🔥🔥

Big thanks to Mahidol University for getting us the tickets and taking wonderful care of us while we have been here in Thailand performing and teaching! It’s been a truly unforgettable time!

I’d like to thank Thanapoom Sriwiset and the trombone studio at Mahidol University in Thailand for inviting me to give a masterclass! The studio ranges from high school to grad students and all played wonderfully! ขอบคุณครับ 😁🇹🇭
