A few moments from a recent gut-health workshop with @ritab_murti and a conversation that went well beyond digestion.

We tend to think about gut health when something feels wrong: bloating, constipation, reflux or changes in bowel habits. But the gut is connected to a lot more.

We talked about its relationship with the brain and nervous system, immune system, hormones, metabolism and skin—and why symptoms like migraines, skin issues or changes in mood may sometimes be part of a bigger picture.

Not because everything starts in the gut. It doesn’t. But because these systems are constantly communicating with one another.

I loved bringing the modern science of the microbiome and digestive physiology together with Rita’s Ayurvedic perspective—a different but complimentary ancient wisdom lens for thinking about digestion, food and daily rhythms.

One idea I hope people left with:

Symptoms are information. Get curious before you restrict.

And supporting gut health doesn’t have to be complicated. Start with the foundation: variety in what you eat, regular movement, good sleep and attention to stress and daily rhythms. by @womanminded

Somewhere along the way, “natural” and “conventional” became opposing teams.

But I don’t think that’s a particularly useful way to think about menopause care.

Hormone therapy can be valuable. So can nutrition, movement, sleep, mindfulness and medical care. And botanicals—plants with long histories of medicinal use that are increasingly being studied in menopausal women—may have something to contribute, too.

The more interesting question isn't **natural or conventional?**

It's **what might support this woman, at this point in her life?**

This week in *Second Spring*, I take a closer look at five plants being studied for menopause, including sage, black cohosh, ashwagandha, shatavari and red clover—and what we're learning as traditional knowledge meets modern research.

🌿 **Natural and conventional don't have to be opposing teams.**

With all the health advice out there, what actually matters?

We’re being told to do ALL THE THINGS — while also being sold the idea that there might be one big answer.

There isn’t.

What matters is starting with the science-backed foundations, then personalizing them to your body, your life and what you’re actually noticing and experiencing. And yes — your mindset matters, too.

That’s the idea behind RESTORE Circle: six weeks to learn, experiment, pay attention and build a foundation that works for you — alongside other women doing the same.

Early enrollment ends September 7. Details at the link in my bio. by @womanminded

One of the best parts of this work is hearing what stays with someone after our time together.

Specifically, I get excited to learn what they understand differently about their body, the choices they feel more confident making, and the ways they’re better able to care for themselves going forward.

I’m grateful when a client takes the time to share her experience — and even more grateful to have been part of it. by @womanminded

More fiber isn’t always the answer.

Constipated? Eat more fiber.

Bloated? You probably need more fiber.

Want a healthier gut? Definitely more fiber.

Fiber is incredibly important for digestive health, metabolic health, hormone balance and our gut microbiome.

But digestive symptoms are information—and sometimes they’re telling us to look beyond fiber.

Straining or incomplete emptying, for example, can have many contributors: hydration, pelvic-floor coordination, changes in intestinal motility, digestive enzymes and stomach acid, medications or supplements, stress, disrupted circadian rhythms—and yes, sometimes the amount or type of fiber you’re eating.

And adding more and more fiber when your digestive system is already struggling can sometimes make you feel worse, not better.

In today’s Second Spring, I’m looking beneath the surface of some common digestive signals—and what they may be trying to tell us.

Because good gut health isn’t about chasing a perfect microbiome. It’s about understanding and building a more resilient digestive system.

🌿 For more science, practical tips and gut-supportive recipes… you can read the new Second Spring through the link in my bio.
