❤️ PLEASE DON’T WAIT FOR YOUR DOG TO SHOW SIGNS OF DENTAL PAIN. 🦷

This is my beautiful girl Callie, recovering after having 13 teeth removed. 💔🐾

As a dog groomer, I wanted to share our experience because it’s such an important reminder that what we see on the outside doesn’t always tell the whole story.

Callie had lovely, plaque-free teeth. She ate normally, played normally and never flinched when having her teeth brushed. She was even still carrying around a heavy doorstop, looking for unsuspecting toes to drop it on! 😂

She showed absolutely no obvious signs of pain.

The only reason we investigated was because I noticed an unusual smell from her mouth. While a new lump was being tested, it made sense to get her teeth X-rayed too.

Thank goodness we did. Underneath those seemingly healthy teeth were multiple abscesses, and 13 teeth needed removing. 😢

It’s heartbreaking to think she’d been living with pain without us knowing.

Dogs are incredibly good at hiding pain. They can eat, play and behave completely normally even when something is wrong.

🦷 Unusual bad breath
🦷 A wobbly tooth
🦷 Red, swollen or bleeding gums
🦷 Changes in eating or chewing

These are all reasons to seek veterinary advice. But remember, Callie had none of these obvious warning signs apart from the smell.

Please don’t assume clean teeth and normal behaviour mean everything is okay. If you notice anything unusual, book a check with your vet. Even one small abscess or a single wobbly tooth can cause significant pain, and dental infections can become serious.

Callie is now home, recovering and receiving plenty of cuddles. ❤️

If sharing her story encourages even one person to get their dog’s mouth checked, it’s worth it.

They can’t tell us when something hurts, so we have to be their voice. ❤️🐾
