Seeing as some of you are new followers - it’s time for a re introduction 🥰

Hi 👋🏻 I’m Katie the human behind the account 📱 I’m 22 years old and I have multiple ‘invisible’ chronic illnesses one of them being type 1 diabetes- Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease, which cannot be prevented or reversed. The immune system attacks insulin producing beta cells, which in turn causes the pancreas to no long produce insulin. I was diagnosed type 1 diabetic at the age of 10 years old, in a critical condition fighting for my life with a fair few weeks in hospital. At the age of 17 i decided to purchase my first ever dog…a Labrador- that’s where Monty’s comes in 😌
Monty is a multipurpose assistance dog which means he has more than 1 job! His primarily job is Diabetic alert 🚨 as i am unaware of the changes in my blood sugars levels to which it becomes dangerous 🏥 he can smell the change within my blood stream by using his nose 👃🏻 now to humans we cannot smell it but to a working dog it’s a strong smell 🚨 I have self trained Monty myself throughout the years. Monty can detect my; High blood sugars, low blood sugars, and if my blood sugars are rising or falling fast- he can detect about 1hour before technology can!! He is simply the best🙌🏼
He can also retrieve my blood testing kits, retrieve me hypo treatment (low blood sugars treatment- I will use a bottle of Coca-Cola or lucozade) he can pick up dropped items for me as bending sometimes can cause me dizziness and pain, he can take off clothes such as socks or pull a sleeve down! he can retrieve washing out the machine + lots more💪

We also participate in gundog training, as off duty time is just as important🙌🏼 we have only recently started Gundog training but we both throughly enjoy it🥰
This is for monty to do off duty, meaning I don’t expect him to medical alert or task during this, while he would do it’s just not expected of him as it’s his time to have some fun and he loves training- also very important to keep him fit and healthy 💪

We Don’t talk about the dog walking outfit🤪 if you see me out with the dog, just walk pass me😂

Remember not all disabilities are visible 👏 some you cannot see- Majority of my disability are invisible so unless you know I struggle with them you wouldn’t know what I battle 💪

A phase I hear often is ‘you don’t look sick’ and that’s because you don’t see me on days where I’m not well enough to be seen, I have good days and I have bad days! so remember not all disabilities are visible- we’re all fighting our own battles 💕

Montys main job is to alert to medical episodes to which you cannot see with your eyes 👀

Remember someone can travel without their assistance dog- it doesn’t mean their disability are ‘cured’ - assistance dogs are dogs they’re not robots, they are allowed to make mistakes, they are allowed days off! If I’m well enough there are days where ill leave him at home to chill 💤
