POSTS STORIES REELS

Casa de Vidro, through World architecture inspiration lens.

Filming Lina Bo Bardi’s home in São Paulo takes on a special meaning when sharing its story in collaboration with Domus, a magazine that was part of her own journey.

In 1944, before moving to Brazil, Lina became co-director of Domus. She helped communicate architectural ideas through publishing before giving them built form in her adopted country. In 1953, that connection came full circle when Gio Ponti presented Casa de Vidro in the magazine.

Designed for herself and Pietro Maria Bardi, the house brings two architectural worlds together. Its glass living spaces rise on slender steel columns, opening daily life to the landscape. Behind them, solid walls and courtyards create a more sheltered domestic setting rooted in vernacular traditions.

Visiting the house brings that balance into focus: modern experimentation, the intimacy of a home and a place where artists and thinkers gathered. Sharing it with Domus feels like a small continuation of that exchange.

Casa Sperimentale: a concrete house designed to evolve.

Hidden among the pine trees of Fregene, near Rome, Casa Albero was conceived by Giuseppe Perugini, Uga De Plaisant and their son Raynaldo as a full-scale architectural laboratory.

Its elevated concrete frame supports a system of prefabricated components conceived for assembly, replacement and rearrangement. Alongside the main house, a spherical living unit and a modular guest house explore alternative ways of inhabiting space.

The project asks a question that remains relevant: how can our homes change with the people living inside them?

Top Soviet Brutalism

What happens when structure becomes sculpture?

Across the Soviet republics, architects explored daring cantilevers, stacked volumes and monumental geometries, turning housing, hotels and cultural buildings into experiments in form. Part of the broader landscape of Soviet modernism, these works reveal diverse architectural identities across the region.

Look closely: repetition creates rhythm, deep recesses carve shadows, and massive volumes appear to float. Their expressive power comes from the relationship between material, structure and space.

A lasting invitation to imagine how extraordinary our everyday buildings could become.

Pritzker Prize Winners: 2022–2020

Three approaches to architecture united by a commitment to improving everyday life.

2022 — Diébédo Francis Kéré
Combining local materials, community participation and passive cooling, Kéré creates buildings rooted in their climate and culture. Construction becomes an opportunity to share skills and strengthen communities.

2021 — Anne Lacaton & Jean-Philippe Vassal
Their work prioritizes generous space, daylight and freedom of use. By transforming existing buildings and using economical construction systems, they demonstrate how careful interventions can offer people more while conserving resources.

2020 — Yvonne Farrell & Shelley McNamara
The founders of Grafton Architects combine substantial forms with carefully shaped light, courtyards and shared spaces. Their educational buildings connect learning with social life, opening institutions to the cities around them.

Different architectural languages, with people at the centre of every decision.

Zaha Hadid: Rethinking Architectural Space

Zaha Hadid challenged the idea that architecture had to follow a rigid grid. Through fragmented planes, sweeping curves and interwoven spaces, she explored how buildings could express movement and connect with their surroundings.

Her early angular compositions developed into increasingly fluid forms, blurring the boundaries between floors, walls, roofs and landscape. Geometry became a tool for shaping how people move through and experience architecture.

In 2004, the Iraqi-British architect became the first woman to receive the Pritzker Architecture Prize. Her legacy encourages us to question familiar solutions and pursue ideas beyond what seems possible at first.

Architects Who Mastered the Modern Movement

Three architects who rethought how buildings could be designed, constructed and inhabited.

Ludwig Mies van der Rohe
Through precise proportions, steel frames and expansive glazing, Mies explored open, flowing spaces. His architecture gave structure, materials and carefully resolved details a defining visual role.

Walter Gropius
As founder of the Bauhaus, Gropius brought art, craftsmanship and industrial production into a shared design philosophy. His work promoted collaboration and an architecture shaped by function and modern construction.

Le Corbusier
His five points of architecture proposed new possibilities for living: pilotis, free plans, free façades, ribbon windows and roof gardens. Villa Savoye brought these principles together, connecting space, daylight and movement.

Their approaches differed, but each expanded the possibilities of architecture for a changing world.

Francis Kéré: Building With a Community

For Diébédo Francis Kéré, architecture begins with understanding how people live, what materials are available and how buildings can respond to their climate.

Born in Gando, Burkina Faso, he combines local knowledge with inventive construction. Raised roofs release heat, deep overhangs provide shade, and carefully designed openings encourage natural ventilation.

Community participation is central to his approach. Building together creates opportunities to share skills and gives people a direct role in shaping their surroundings.

His work reminds us that architectural ambition can begin with familiar materials and a commitment to improving everyday life.

Frank Gehry: Architecture as Sculpture

Frank Gehry challenged the conventional architectural box through fragmented volumes, sweeping curves and unexpected combinations of materials. His buildings explore how form can suggest movement and change as we walk around them.

At Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, overlapping stainless-steel surfaces catch light differently throughout the day, giving the building a shifting presence within the city.

His work invites us to approach architecture with curiosity: to experiment with familiar materials, question established forms and imagine new spatial possibilities.

Exploring design possibilities with xFigura.

As an architect working in Revit, I’m interested in tools that fit into my design process. With xFigura, I can send views of my model directly to an AI canvas and explore different materials, atmospheres and design options.

It also connects with SketchUp and Rhino, bringing image, video and 3D generation into a shared workspace where teams can develop ideas together.

Comment xFigura and I’ll send you the link for 15% off your chosen plan, available to first-time users.

Tadao Ando: Architecture Shaped by Light

With exposed concrete, precise geometry and carefully placed openings, Tadao Ando creates spaces that make us more aware of light, nature and the passage of time.

His walls frame views, guide movement and give changing shadows a surface to inhabit. Enclosed courtyards bring the sky into everyday life, while restrained materials allow subtle shifts in atmosphere to become the focus.

Across houses, museums and places of worship, his work explores how architecture can create moments of stillness and reconnect us with our surroundings.

What If Paris Became a Solarpunk City?

Solarpunk imagines an optimistic future where renewable energy, ecological design and community life shape how we live. Technology works alongside nature to create greener, more equitable cities.

For a city with such a rich architectural heritage as Paris, my proposal begins with preservation. Its historic buildings remain, while urban planning transforms the spaces between them: greener boulevards, walkable neighbourhoods, connected gardens and public transport supported by clean energy.

Where additional space is needed, I imagine buildings conceived as vertical neighbourhoods. Branching like trees, they bring together homes, workplaces, gardens and shared spaces. Their design draws from ecosystems, integrating energy generation, water reuse and habitats for other species.

A vision of Paris that grows while preserving the architecture that gives it its identity.

What If Architectural Styles Were Music Genres?

Architecture and music both use rhythm, repetition and contrast to shape how we feel. Here are four imagined pairings:

Modern Movement × Vocal Jazz
Clean lines, balanced proportions and flowing spaces meet the warmth and measured phrasing of vocal jazz.

Brutalism × Post-Punk
Exposed concrete and repetitive forms echo the stripped-back instrumentation, persistent basslines and stark atmosphere of post-punk.

Gothic × Neue Deutsche Härte
Soaring vaults, dramatic shadows and monumental scale find a counterpart in heavy riffs, forceful rhythms and theatrical intensity.

High-Tech × Techno
Exposed structures and visible building systems turn engineering into architectural expression, matching techno’s precision, repetition and mechanical pulse.

Which pairing would you add?
