Everyday, I’m reminded of what we built. A couple of kids with cameras and a dream. We used to always say, before every shoot, “Show up, show out, and show off!” I know… I’ve been a bit reserved for some time now, it’s been a bit rough for a handful of years now, but heck, I ain’t getting any younger and the world could always use more creativity nowadays. 🎨Look Breakdown:

I’ll keep it pretty simple… because it is pretty simple. The look comes down to 2 main factors:
1) film stocks
2) custom curves
-
I used a Kodak 7268 negative and the classic 2383 positive.

There are a lot of ways to implement these stocks from plugins to luts, but I tend to use both. For plugins, I’ll use Film Convert and Look Designer, a WORTHY investment for any filmmaker.

As far as the custom curves go, this just comes down to building your own contrast (in this case, quite heavy) and then splitting your RGB channels to implement your own split toning. I kept it subtle this time since some was already present from the film stocks.

I almost always included a soft glow, and grain to really polish things up. But don’t forget about sharpness (or rather softness) of the image and overall texture. Study true film stills from the stocks you’re recreating to get an idea of how things SHOULD look, and then try to match up your own image to match.
