Back in a cafe... writing... still the same story 🫠🫣 But it's getting there! 😻 Progress is much, MUCH slower than I'd like, but one cappuccino at a time, this idea is transforming into a rolling laugh of a tale 🙏☕️🤎

And there's a couple of new ideas on my horizon... which at this rate will be ready for release around 2038 😂 Right - back to it! by @writinginthedesert_

✨ Not long ago I was lucky enough to have not one, but two, of my short stories short-listed in the Chapter Short Story Contest run by Romance Writers of NZ. So super exciting and an honour for me! 🏆

🍰 I came forth with The Marchbury Cake Competition, and both stories made the cut to be published in Liaisons, RWNZ’s annual online magazine.

🤓 You can read Liaisons on the RWNZ website - thank you to @romancewritersnz and The Chapter bookshop in Mt Eden, Auckland for the honour!🌷

📙My dear friend and old colleague has written a book! DeAnne Nicoloso has released THREE LITTLE VIKINGS, a sometimes-raucous tale of three childhood friends who go on to become vigilante crime-stoppers.

🚓The story starts with a job that’s gone terribly wrong and winds its way back to a sepia toned childhood in Dannevirke, NZ, where we discover what makes these particular three women stick together through it all… and why they’re so bent on Justice.

💃🏽 This is a partly autobiographical tale of DeAnne’s life and it was incredible to share her highs and lows. She has lived such a full life, she had to divide it among three characters!

👀 If you want a read that will surprise you and keep you on the edge of your comfy sofa, give this one a shot! Have a read of the review in the NZ Herald or listen to DeAnne’s interview on Radio NZ!

🐞A cluster of photos from the winter months.

✏️ I’m just finishing up the truly excellent course, Writing Heart and Humour, with Rick Morton. It’s easily been the best writing course I’ve attended! Rick is funny and sharp, and I know I’ll be flicking back through his materials for years to come.

I was incredibly grateful to earn a place AND to have my spot paid for - a massive Thank You to Varuna & ArtsNT!!🙏🏽

Sad note, I’ll miss the group of talented writers I got to hang with, and Rick’s weekly updates on life in Paris 🥖👨‍🎨

💚 Yesterday was International Macaron Day, so it seemed like the perfect time to try making these little treats…delicious! Peppermint + vanilla 💚🤍
🩷 What’s your favourite macaron flavour?

In the story I’m currently writing, the main character Bonnie is a baker, and one day she makes peppermint macarons (there’s more to it than that, promise).

My quiet goal is to make all the things that Bonnie bakes in my story🧁 Only 30 or so to go 😅😳

🌞Getting back into the writing vibe this morning ✍🏼 It’s been a looong summer and my brain needed a break from this manuscript!! But I’m slowly getting back into it - with the benefit of fresh eyes and it’s a quiet relief to see that I still love these characters and that I’ve got some new ideas✨💕

Thanks heaps to @annie.cameron.writes and @vikingcat for your feedback to help move me to the next stage!

🍄🌷Spring arrives slowly🌱
Just a small update of recent times. The main news is that spring has come early here in Central Australia! Everyone is excited about the mulberry tree and we have near-permanent purple fingers 😋🌳

I’ve been deep in my writing cave finishing my first draft of my Baking Love manuscript (🥳) and am now straight into editing.
Much baking has occurred, though I forgot to take photos.

Oh - and I think I found the Lorax as he’s getting lifted away ☄️

🍒And here’s the finished product…Black Forest Cake! Yum!🤤

This is the first time a 3-layer cake has turned out so well for me at all the various steps! Usually it goes awry somewhere along the way. I put it down to an excellent recipe from @sallysbakeblog - thanks Sally!

What’s your favourite cake? Are you into old classics, like Black Forest, or do you like newer inventions, like Biscoff Birthday Cake?? 🎂🍰🥰
