Thursday 10/22 5:30 ‘Does the Land Remember’ - Maya Tihtiyas Attean (@mayatihtiyasart) / @wychelm.press It’s freeeeeeeeeeeee (the event not the book) by @wychelm.press
Happy Indigenous peoples’ day! I implore you to learn whose land you live on, engage with the Indigenous people of your area, educate yourself on issues, and support land back campaigns that respect our sovereignty and right to care for the land. Today, I celebrate the land, my people, and our everlasting persistence of spirit with the announcement that my book: Does the Land Remember? Published by Wych Elm, is finally done. This book means so much to me. Living away from my reservation for most of my adult life as a white passing Wabanaki person in a mostly white state, I often felt like I was invisible and chronically misunderstood. I oscillated in between two worlds: one where Indigenous knowledge and decolonization is centered, and another where we are completely forgotten. Photography has given me a voice to put these feelings into a tangible creation. This book of photographs taken over four years across Wabanakik contemplates if we can feel the energetic shifts across the land. Do we feel our ancestors spirit persisting along with us, our animal relatives present, a lineage of connection to a place? I photographed at significant sites across Wabanaki history, places that held great trauma or joy, or felt significant to me, and used my body as a conduit for the energy I felt while being present there. Using place name maps, historical documents, and drawing on Wabanaki legends, I honor my people and the land. Through this exploration I have gained immense gratitude for those who came before me & hope for our future ancestors. Pre-orders will be shipping soon, and regular orders shortly after that. Woliwon to my collaborators & to the @kindlingfund for supporting the production of this book!! wychelm.press/does-the-land-remember ♥️🪶✨ by @wychelm.press

Careful Looking 2026 48 pages Published by @wychelm.press / Jake Benzinger, with a foreword by @matt_moment 🤍 A handmade, french folded extension of love. My preface. A culmination of images birthed from some of the most meaningful encounters with loved ones over the past couple of years. I feel there will be many iterations over time, so this for now feels like a peek of my décolletage 🩰 Pre-orders are open now - link in bio. by @wychelm.press
𝘊𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘊𝘢𝘯𝘦𝘮 is a new two-person collaborative zine I made, interweaving my work with @find.some.time. Copies are available online at @wychelm.press (linked in my bio) and will also be for sale in person at @risd.unbound this Saturday, April 11th, from 11am–5pm. Each zine is hand-sewn/bound, and there are only 50 copies in this edition! —— Rather than offering certainty, this body of work lingers in the unstable space between documentation, evidence, and apparition. It invites viewers to consider photography not as proof, but as a ritual of remembering, a medium that holds space for chance, subconscious desire, and a means of describing what haunts us, while discovering that it may also be what helps us find beauty and meaning. 𝘣𝘦𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘥𝘰𝘨 by @wychelm.press
Big thank you to @float_magazine for such a lovely review of Dead Trees Speak to Me by @tabitha_barnard <3 “Dead Trees Speak to Me invites us in, the photos are welcoming, but we need to bring our own lives and experiences to them, and when we do they give back. Tabitha Barnard’s photos look staged and posed; they are premeditated and planned. But still, they seem very real, and the emotions they depict are raw and real. This book invites the viewer to reflect on their own childhood and transition into adulthood. And I guess that it inspires many more than me, to want refamiliarize with their own sites of myths and the back forests, both real and metaphorical, of their childhood.” Check the links in our bio to read the full review, or to order a copy of the book! by @wychelm.press

Tabitha Barnard | Jake Benzinger | Dead Trees Speak to Me Jake Benzinger (Wych Elm) and Tabitha Barnard join me to officially launch my series on publishers and authors where I explore the relationship that builds between publishers, editors, designers, and photographers and to hopefully provide some insight as to how photobooks are being made. Tabitha’s book, Dead Trees Speak to Me, was Jake’s first photo book that was not his own and Jake and Tabitha will share how they came to know each other and why Jake wanted to publish Tabitha’s work. We will talk about the editing and sequencing of the book as well as some of the more traditional questions about how they both got to where they are. @wychelm.press @tabitha_barnard @jake_benzinger This podcast is sponsored by the Charcoal Book Club Begin Building your dream photobook library today at @charcoalbookclub Tabitha Barnard was born in Freedom, New Hampshire in 1994.
