The FIRST #DidYouKnow Dolphin Edition of 2024 appropriately belongs to none other than our #ForeverFirstLady, Mrs. Michelle Obama. Meet Michelle LaVaughn Robinson Obama, class of '81. Michelle (@MichelleObama) is an attorney, author, and THE former First Lady of the United States. Before becoming the FIRST African-American First Lady, Michelle worked at Sidley Austin, where she met her husband and future President Barack Obama. In 1991, Michelle worked in the public sector as the Assistant to the Mayor, and as Assistant Commissioner of Planning and Development. She then worked in an Executive Director role at nonprofits before becoming the Associate Dean of Students at @uchicago. Later, she served as the Vice President for Community and External Affairs of the @uchicagomed Center. During her time at the White House, Michelle was an advocate for health and fitness, education, and family support, by implementing four primary initiatives: #LetsMove, #ReachHigher, #LetGirlsLearn, and #JoiningForces. Also while at the White House, Michelle became known for giving dynamically influential speeches, coining the phrase "When they go low, we go high." Now retired, Michelle Obama has written multiple best-selling books including Becoming, for which Michelle won a @recordingacademy award for Best Audio Book, Narration & Storytelling Recording; and The Light We Carry: Overcoming in Uncertain Times, which Michelle won an @televisionacad award for Outstanding Hosted Nonfiction Series or Special. Michelle Obama, you are an inspiration to people around the world and you will ALWAYS be our First Lady! Congratulations on all you've accomplished thus far. Bravo! ๐Ÿงก๐Ÿฌ๐Ÿ’™ #DolphinLegacy #WYHSAlumni #WYDolphins #FirstLady #DolphinsInPolitics #WYD4L by @wyhsalumni

The Whitney Young Alumni Association extends its heartfelt condolences to the family of Dr. James Byron Hooks, Jr., who passed away on July 3, 2026. Dr. Hooks dedicated more than 30 years to education, including nearly 15 years at @whitneymyounghs as an English teacher and disciplinarian before retiring in 1992. His legacy at Whitney Young also lives on through four of his six children, who graduated from our school. A virtual memorial service celebrating his life will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. Please see the flyer for details. We send our love and support to his son, Joffrey Hooks, Class of 1992, and the entire Hooks family. ๐Ÿงก๐Ÿ’™ #DolphinBeyondTheBlue #DolphinLegacy #WYHSAlumni by @wyhsalumni
