Case study: @wallandwitart
My first experience as a curator in a virtual world started with a question:How can people connect more with art online?
I wanted to explore the difference between simply viewing HTML page online gallery and actually entering a 3D space to discover it.
I shared the idea with Hugo Cochelin, founder of Wall&Wit online art gallery, based in Toulouse, and we decided to experiment. The quality of the art was never the question.
We brought together six strong visionary urban artists from Toulouse: @Amandine Steropes, @mero_artiste @Spot, @lespinceauxdemarie31 and @sana_saname @allias_arts
The challenge was to see whether the environment could create a different relationship between the audience and their work. This was my first virtual exhibition and, honestly, I was learning everything as I went.I learned how to use the platform, how to think about the exhibition space, how visitors might move through it, and how to host a live inauguration.
The inauguration itself was not exactly a success :) People came in, walked around, looked at the artworks and followed the links to discover more about the artists. But nobody really dared to talk. And that was fascinating. It made me realise that putting people together in a virtual space doesn’t automatically create interaction. The experience has to give them a reason to engage.
That first exhibition taught me something that stayed with me throughout the next three years:A virtual exhibition isnt simply an online gallery in 3D.
It is about finding new ways for people to encounter art, discover artists and connect with each other. Wall&Wit was my first experiment — and the beginning of my journey into virtual curation, exploring how space can become part of the art experience. Case study: Passiflora by @asligirgins

Creating virtual exhibitions is one thing. Experiencing the magic of a LIVE opening is another.Passiflora, a photography exhibition by Aslı Girgin, was my very first virtual gallery ,a space I created and curated as XperienZ.club, and the beginning of a completely new chapter in my journey with spatial computing.

As the daughter of a renowned artist, I grew up attending countless exhibition openings. But nothing had prepared me for this.Around 300 people, aged 25 to 65, connected from all over the world to celebrate Aslıs sensitive and beautiful photography. And what happened next was pure magic.

We laughed, talked, jumped around and explored the 3D gallery together. Some visitors got stuck inside virtual walls, some walk on the wals, some talked, some wrote on the chat, others made friends with people on the other side of the world. We were like kids discovering a new playground. At the heart of all this joyful chaos was Aslı Girgins art.

For the first time, I truly understood what a LIVE virtual inauguration could mean. It wasnt simply presenting artworks in a digital space. It was creating an environment where art, people and unexpected encounters could come together spontaneously.

The exhibition welcomed 1,500 visits, and Aslı also sold her artwork. For me, Passiflora was a turning point. I had created my first virtual gallery, curated the exhibition and brought people together in a space where the experience went far beyond looking at photographs on a wall.
I had attended so many traditional openings, but this was different. It was art, joy, human connection and an entirely new way of sharing a cultural experience.

Passiflora taught me that a virtual gallery isnt just a place to exhibit art. Its a place to create experiences that bring people together. And that beautiful energy, born from my very first gallery, is something I will always remember.

Hope I will meet more artist who would like to live the same experience by @xperienz_club

Bir SERGI'nin konseptini yaratmak, küratörlükte en çok sevdiğim şey.

@hlyduzenli — The Code / Virtual Golden Cube Gallery sergisi deneyimim

Curating a virtual exhibition is not just about placing artworks in a 3D space. It’s about creating the world around the art: the architecture, atmosphere, journey and story.

After 3 years of immersive curation
*this is where the interesting part begins.
The virtual space should not compete with the artwork.
It should become part of the storytelling.
The artist, the art, the architecture and the visitor should feel connected.
That is how I approach immersive curation.
I don't simply ask:
“Where should we put this artwork?”
I ask:
“What kind of world does this artwork deserve?”
And then:
“How can we invite the visitor into that world?”
This is what makes virtual exhibition curation so challenging — and so exciting.

What It Really Takes to Create a Virtual Art Show?
After three years of creating and curating immersive art exhibitions, one thing has become very clear to me:
A virtual exhibition is not simply a collection of artworks placed inside a 3D space.
It is an experience that has to be designed from the very beginning.
And the most important question is not, “How do we build the gallery?”
It is: “Why would someone want to explore it?”
That question shapes everything.
Visitors see the gallery. They don’t see everything that had to happen before the first person connects.

It starts before the gallery exists
For every exhibition, there is a long creative process behind the scenes.
It begins with the artists and the artworks: understanding their practice, identifying the relationships between works, selecting what belongs in the exhibition and, sometimes, deciding what should not be shown.
Then comes the concept.
What is the story?
What should the visitor discover first?
What should remain unexpected?
Should the space feel like a gallery, a landscape, a game, a dream, or a laboratory?
How can the architecture support the art rather than compete with it?
These decisions come before any virtual wall is built.
My role has been to develop that vision and translate it into a clear concept for the creative and technical team, working closely with environment designers, 3D artists and developers to turn the idea into an experience.
The visitor journey matters
Every detail determines whether an exhibition feels intuitive, engaging and memorable.
Because when an exhibition is truly well designed, people don’t think about how it was made.
They simply want to keep exploring.
