Yesterday the Norwegian oil minister handed out 53 new oil licenses. This is unacceptable in the midst of a climate crisis. Together with people from all over Scandinavia, old and young, we disrupted their celebrations. More oil is a death sentence for thousands of people and our future, not something to celebrate. No peace for the fossil elite🔥

Passing the phone to our nemesis - data centres. Responsible for storage of Big Tech’s data that is supporting Israel’s genocide of the Palestinian people. Microsoft, Google, and Amazon’s systems assist the mass murder of Gazans through surveillance, drones, targeted attacks, and more.

Data centres use 21% of Ireland’s electricity, more than all households combined. They use massive amounts of fossil fuels and water. During this climate emergency, we can’t afford to waste so much resources on data storage. 80% of data stored in data centres is not “business critical”.

This year, we disrupted the Data Centres Ireland Conference. We blocked people from going into the main entrance of the conference, meanwhile activists disrupted a keynote speech about AI by Barry Owens, Chief Information Officer for the Irish government.

No more data centres! Power communities, not Big Tech! End Fossil Fuels!

THE YOUTH BLOCKS THE SWEDISH PARLIAMENT FOR CLIMATE JUSTICE

Young activists are sitting in peaceful protest in front of the Swedish parliament today. They have gathered here to block the entrances of the legislative building in a call for climate justice.

In the face of the existential crisis we are going through, elected officials are accountable for their inaction and misleading the people into thinking enough is being done while carrying on with the business as usual that caused the crisis in the first place.

While the climate crisis amplifies and worsens the struggles of those already affected by injustices, the world continues to exploit the last healthy ecosystems and emit more greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, while inequality, oppression and repression are allowed to intensify.

Democracy comes from the people and it dies in indifference and complacency. The young people in front of the Swedish parliament are here today to amplify the voices of those whose lives are sacrificed for profit.

Scientists from various fields of research have also joined the action to emphasise the scientific grounds of the youth activists’ call for urgent social transformations in order to tackle the climate crisis at its roots. by @xr_youth

On Saturday we visited the Bank of America in London alongside friends from Edinburgh Youth in Resistance and Sheffield Action Group in solidarity with the #StopCopCity movement in Atlanta, Georgia.

#defendatlantaforest is a movement to stop the building of a massive cop training ground - to be used to prepare cops for repressing protest - in the place of a forest. The training ground is being built in the wake of the #BLM protests, and is in a majority Black area. A protestor has already been murdered by cops in the forest. The Bank of America is actively funding this project.

There is so much that is horrendous about this project, and we in the UK must stand in solidarity with those on the ground resisting it.

When we stood on solidarity outside @bankofamerica we were reminded that ACAB, whether they're in the US or the UK... Or anywhere else! City of London cops grabbed flares off young people, arrested then dearrested someone, and followed us halfway across London, even following the bus we were in in a cop van.

This past week XR Youth Sweden took to the streets of their capital with the demand to stop fossil fuel subsidies. Sweden, which often brags about being so environmentally friendly, still gives 3 billion Euros in fossil fuel subsidies a year, using our tax money to pay for the destruction of our world. In order to have a chance of meeting the 1.5 degree goal of the Paris agreement, Sweden needs to decrease emissions by 20% per year, starting this year.

With an election in Sweden this September and very little debate from the parties on the crisis, @XRYSWE are together with @extinctionrebellionsve taking personal risks and coming together in order to make sure this crisis cannot be ignored. We as youth have not been able to vote or make the decisions that have now left us with a destroyed world and bleak future, and there isn't enough time to wait for us to be old enough to get into politics, so what choice do we have but to take to the streets, the place where change has repeatedly been made throughout history?

Throughout the week we successfully blocked many roads to raise awareness and had die-ins and direct actions against corporations like Volvo.

We will keep fighting for all the youth affected by this crisis now and in the years to come.✊ by @xr_youth

According to the World Health Organization, "Climate change threatens to undo the last 50 years of progress in development, global health, & poverty reduction" by further widening existing healthcare inequalities around the world.

We owe it to our global neighbors, those already experiencing the personal cost of climate change who had so little to do with causing it, to do our part in fighting it.

The first thing we can all do is read up on the COP26 Health Programme Reports, and the work and recommendations of the @who on Climate & Health.

Graphics from @xryouth.ie - With the recent supreme court ruling on abortions, bodily autonomy has taken a huge hit in the United States. Not only this, but the results of the actions take by the court have consequences that reach far into the climate sector.

We do not stand with this, and we must do better.

OUR FUTURE IS CHAINED TO YOUR ACTIONS

On June 16th over 20 young people from @xryswe blocked the entrance to the ST1 refinery, the company in Sweden with the fifth largest CO2 emissions. They did it because they didn't have a choice. Fossil fuel corporations continue to be allowed to profit immensely at the cost of our planet and livelihoods. We feel the need to act because our governments fail to do so.

While we are fighting for a livable future, we are also fighting for a livable world NOW as we recognize the climate crisis is here now causing devastation across the world, especially for those in communities who have caused the crisis the least. Together with youth across the world, we dare to fight for our dreams of a better world✊

P.S. How ridiculous is it that the ST1 Refinery is a protected object under Swedish law, preventing us from taking pictures of it, and why we had to post a photoshopped image instead. Why doesn’t the Swedish government protect its children instead of the place that will lead to the destruction of its future generations?

YOU’RE BURNING OUR FUTURE, WE’RE SAVING YOUR ASS

In the last few days XRY Netherlands organized a blockade at the Regentesse bridge in Rotterdam.

“The fossil fuel industry is stealing our future, therefore we rise up! As long as the government doesn’t implement a fair climate policy we will continue to block and disrupt. We’re running out of time. We’re heading towards 4 degrees of global warming, which will result in a world where we will not be able to live.”

They say they will stay in Rotterdam until the 24th to demand action. Join us!

Today, XR Youth UK activists from @xryouthcambridge and @xryouthsheffield disrupted the Mayfair Hotel. This action took place as part of a coalition of groups in order to shut down the African Energies summit.

The African Energies Summit is a high-level conference attended by oil executives and African heads of state, who will also meet for “top-level networking”. What a surprise….. The conference is sponsored by oil giants such as Shell, Total, Perenco and Schlumberger.

Whilst banners were being hung from the balconies, others were locking and glueing on to the outside doors. Meanwhile, some gained access to the conference room itself and locked on through suitcases.

On the pavement outside a group had gathered to listen to broadcasted voice recordings of people from South Africa, Namibia, Nigeria, the DRC and Uganda explaining how oil projects are destroying rather than benefiting their communities.

So why is this happening?

We are here today sharing messages on placards from Indigenous African land defenders and African environmental activists.

Continued oil exploitation in Africa is a form of neo-colonialism with governments tied into making oil deals due to crippling debt repayments. Africa needs a just transition to renewable energy.

This conference should be about justice for Africa, not about extracting more oil and gas that has been killing people for hundreds of years and will carry on doing just that.

The IPPC report released in March this year stated that the continued use of fossil fuels will mean that half the population of the continent of Africa could be displaced within the next eight years.

We demand the rich ceos inside the conference give back the land to the communities who live there, cancel the debt, pay loss and damage and repair the damage that has already been done.

In other words, end oil colonialism now.

This action happened alongside Extinction Rebellion Africa, Sustaining the Wild Coast, StopEACOP, Africans Rising, The Green Connection, Oceans Not Oil, Jubilee for Climate, 350.org and Greenpeace

Today we and @xrebellionuk blocked vauxhall bridge and Lambeth bridge! The youth are rising up and will not be complicit in the harm caused by fossil fuel corporations and the governments that support and subsidise their activity!

[Disclaimer: while we were involved and played a key role this was a XR UK action not an XRY action]
