Behind the Story | Episode Three🕊️ In Episode Three, we sit down with Roy Iro to explore his journey with this kaupapa and what it means to step into a new chapter of his creative practice. While Roy has built an impressive emerging career as an actor, writer, and multidisciplinary artist, Me He Manu Rere marks a significant milestone, his first short film project stepping into the directing space. As a young aspiring Cook Islands filmmaker, this opportunity carries a deep responsibility: to learn, to grow, and to help bring powerful Indigenous stories to the screen. Roy shares what this kaupapa means to him, the importance of supporting one another as storytellers, and the future he hopes to help create for Pacific filmmakers. Our Boosted crowdfunding campaign is still live, and your support helps us continue creating space for the next generation of Māori and Pasifika storytellers. 🖤 Donate via the link in our bio. #BehindTheStory #MāoriFilm by @yaboy.roy
Mānawatia a Matariki anau✨ As we welcome in the new year, the team here at Tū Anga’anga Productions is taking a moment to reflect on one of the most meaningful opportunities we were fortunate to be part of. Last week, the co-directors of Tū Anga’anga Productions had the privilege of attending a five-day wānanga at Ōwhata Marae, facilitated by Tainui Tukiwaho. The wānanga brought together emerging Māori writers to develop feature film scripts under the mentorship of Victor Rodger and Paula Whetu Jones. We were incredibly honoured to be selected as one of the creative duos, giving us the opportunity to develop Roy’s new feature film script. As rangatahi still finding our footing in theatre and film, and learning to tell our Cook Islands stories across different storytelling mediums, opportunities like this are truly invaluable. We leave feeling inspired, challenged, and deeply grateful for the generosity of our mentors and the incredible creatives we shared the week with. The connections we made have already become lifelong friendships, and we’re excited to carry everything we’ve learned into our future writing, directing, and producing projects. Meitaki ma’ata to Tainui, Victor, Paula, our fellow writers, and everyone who made this wānanga such a special and transformative experience. We can’t wait to see where these stories take us. ❤️ by @yaboy.roy

The cast and crew invite you to come and watch MIC DROP. Opening TONIGHT, Tue-Sat June 23rd-27th, at Basement Theatre 8PM. This is the second iteration of Mic Drop, which is adapted from the 2021 mockumentary short film “Drop The Mic” by Marcus Savelio, Isabella Taouma, Kyan Alo & Tamasa Lavea. Mic Drop made its debut as a script reading at Toi Whakaari’s FWD24. It then made its first staged debut at the 2025 NZ Fringe Festival with a cast consisting of Waikamania Seve, Joshua Leota, Roy Clark, Tamahou TeHei & Joel Washington. Following Fringe, Mic Drop was awarded the inaugural Playmarket Theatremakers Award, allowing the work to undergo development with script advisor Jason Te Kare, before continuing further development under Roy Iro. With all this support, Mic Drop was workshopped and expanded into the show you will see today, making its Tāmaki Makaurau debut directed by Roy Iro. 🎟️ Tickets available link in bio by @yaboy.roy
