1 🟡 Periscopes at the Leg Grounds: Walking through the legislature grounds? Do not miss the towering sculptural periscopes (installed in the early ‘80s) on the east side of the legislature grounds. They direct natural light into the pedways below and also give those underground a view. Bonus: enjoy the snazzy new spray park at the north end of the leg grounds too. 🟡 The Edmonton: It's Fine Here! local's map and guide is the perfect Edmonton cheat sheet. 30 🟡 New bridge, instant classic. Driving under it is genuinely fun. Walking or cycling across the separated pathways is slick, too. The bridge integrates into a river path network that loops underneath the banks so you can get a look at the architecture from below. At night the bridge is lit up in soft white tones. It’s cool. We like it. Go see it. 🟡 The Edmonton: It's Fine Here! local's map and guide is the perfect Edmonton cheat sheet. 8 🟡 Holowach Tree: Edmonton’s oldest chestnut tree is stuffed into a tiny parklet in a downtown alley with a small sign and fence around it. As with many neat things in this city, you have to go looking for them, and they just might be located next to a dumpster. 🟡 The Edmonton: It's Fine Here! local's map and guide is the perfect Edmonton cheat sheet. 22 🟡 Capitol Theatre: A knockout re-creation of Edmonton’s original Capitol Theatre, circa 1929. Seeing a movie here during the summer also puts you on the grounds of Fort Edmonton Park, which some might say is closest thing to time travel you can do. 🟡 The Edmonton: It's Fine Here! local's map and guide is the perfect Edmonton cheat sheet. 19 🟡 The original RAM building and grounds just west of downtown are still there and as amazing as ever. The building’s south facade has huge carved panels reproducing petroglyphs by Niitsítapi (Blackfoot) and their ancestors from Áísínai’pi (Writing-On-Stone) Provincial Park. There’s also a gorgeous fountain and a traditional Korean pavilion. 🟡 The Edmonton: It's Fine Here! local's map and guide is the perfect Edmonton cheat sheet. 39 🟡 Stroll or bike ride along Ada Boulevard (from 50 St. westward) past the Magrath Mansion to 75 St. where there’s a tremendous view of the river valley and downtown Edmonton. It’s especially spectacular at sunset, bonus points if it’s in winter. Pick up some Portguese egg tarts from Handy Bakery before you go. 🟡 The Edmonton: It's Fine Here! local's map and guide is the perfect Edmonton cheat sheet. 9 🟡 There’s a funicular next to the Hotel Macdonald that leads to a 20-metre high cantilevered lookout facing the North Saskatchewan River. Getting stuck in the moving glass box on rails has proven to be the most Edmonton thing you can do. Consider taking the stairs! It’s definitely worth checking out the landscaped greenery and walking paths at the bottom with sculptures by artist Jill Anholt. 🟡 The Edmonton: It's Fine Here! local's map and guide is the perfect Edmonton cheat sheet. 21 🟡 Peter Hemingway Pool: Architect Peter Hemingway won the Massey Medal for this mid-century structure made from wood, concrete, steel, cables and glass. Closed for renos until 2026, but you can still visit the outside and patiently wait for the day when you can go for a swim in the public pool and enjoy the building from the inside too. 🟡 The Edmonton: It's Fine Here! local's map and guide is the perfect Edmonton cheat sheet. 15 🟡 World Waterpark: Not to overstate the obvious, but we’ve got a huge waterslide park…inside one of the biggest malls in North America, the West Edmonton Mall. And a whole lot of other things that shouldn’t be in a mall, like a rollercoaster, an ice rink, a fake European street, and a life-size treasure ship you can host a birthday party on. The Waterpark is pricey, but might actually be worth it when it’s -30C out. If you’re not the waterpark type, just wander around and marvel at the 3,800,000 square-foot mall - the shopping part is entirely optional. Visit the TNT Supermarket for great snacks and bubble tea. 🟡 The Edmonton: It's Fine Here! local's map and guide is the perfect Edmonton cheat sheet. 10 🟡 High Level Bridge Streetcar: A summer-only thing, but it’s a great way to cross the river. Hop on this historic streetcar and take in sweeping views of the river valley. There are even concerts and weddings held in the trolley, high above the waterway. Schedule available online. 🟡 The Edmonton: It's Fine Here! local's map and guide is the perfect Edmonton cheat sheet. 33 🟡 INDIGENOUS ART PARK ᐄᓃᐤ(ÎNÎW) River Lot 11∞ Just south of the Walterdale Bridge is a sculpture garden like no other. Six giant works by Canadian Indigenous artists dot the side of the river valley. The artists were asked to tell a story of this place and the land the park sits on. Wander around the sculptures as you consider the meaning of the Treaty 6 land that we live on in Edmonton. The city is home to Canada’s second-largest urban Indigenous community, which is so rad. Be sure to visit the Ociciwan Contemporary Art Centre @ociciwan in downtown #yeg as well. 🟡 The Edmonton: It's Fine Here! local's map and guide is the perfect Edmonton cheat sheet.
