Ideas are everywhere. Concepts take work.

If you’ve got a brief that needs one, you know where to find us. by @yellow.octopus

Ten years of work, but someone still said AI could have done it in a day.

A year ago, The Violinist was an unfinished thumbnail on a studio’s website. By mid-2026 it had taken the top prize at Annecy and was on its way to local theatres. A Singaporean animated film, made by hand, about two violinists in pre-war Singapore.

It should have settled a certain argument. It didn’t. The comments still arrived, and anyone who works in this industry has heard a version of them about their own work.

So our very own @bethcartoonist wrote about why that argument is the wrong one to be having. Not whether AI could have made it faster, but why someone wanted to make it themselves anyway.

The best part of Saturday wasn’t just the type talk; it was the conversations that started once the talks ended!

Thanks @deathoftypography for having us, @markdewinne @qiuboon @darius_ou for the stories behind the typefaces, and @abbigailsparty for taking everyone back to where Just My Type started.

Aaaaand that’s a wrap on Just My Type! 🎉 Eight archetypes, eight typefaces, eight notebooks, five designers, five partners and a great deal of folding.

Thanks to everyone who took the quiz, found their type and came along for all of it.. You’re just our type! 💛 by @yellow.octopus

Making one of something is hard. Making hundreds of them identically is the actual job.

@kpp.sg built our Just My Type box, and they’ll tell you our first prototype was complicated. It worked on our table, but tables and presses want different things.

What they did with it: fewer joints, hot stamp and print across eight coloured papers, 3D printed keychains on their biggest 3D run so far. All of it consistent across the whole quantity, which is the part we’re proudest of.

Eight archetypes, one box, one very patient print partner. by @yellow.octopus

Eight archetypes. Eight typefaces. And now eight poems.

We gave each archetype a voice and asked the team to read them out loud.

The Maverick. somewhere high up, convinced the view is worth it.
The Champion, carrying other people’s dreams and asking for more.
The Collaborator, three hearts and all, insisting there isn’t a single way of being.

Some of them are about work. Some of them... not so much. All of them, written with someone in our den in mind.

Swipe through, then find out which one is yours. 💛🐙

Three hearts tender enough
to hear the ocean’s buttery soft thump,
three hearts enough to waste on everything,
every feeling.

My hands are full of other people’s dreams—
glass birds of radiance and light.
I cradle them against my ribs
‘til I forgot which heartbeat belongs to whom.

…and i measure twice, three times, again
because the masters of old shophouses
knew every joint and sinew.

If the views are stunning, why not?
In the lick of sky I find the splendour
all of you are missing, reach out
for my fingertips to graze the ephemeral.

Consider the ravens, the lilies,
the reeds in the fields.
Consider all the things that make us whole:
Food. Fear. Faith. Every fold and fallow.

If your mind so desires, go enquire.
Tread softly, strongly, boldly, wearily—
the roads welcome your dancing feet.

…and I alone know every sound this vessel makes
and I alone keep the lamp steady in the small hours
and know how we came close…
The fog has made fools of lesser eyes.
The watch starts on another dreamless night.

Hold on—
let’s run and make it look easy
take the whiplash of the new year
and make good of it by @yellow.octopus

“Print is not dead. It’s just being evolved.”

We put that to two people who’d know. Fedrigoni have been making paper in Italy since 1888, and the cream stock inside our notebooks is theirs. Mukim have been distributing here since 1975, when they started as a husband-and-wife trading company, and they’ve watched printing technology turn over several times since. We asked both of them why paper still earns its place when everything else has gone digital.

Their answers are worth two minutes. So is finding out which of our eight archetypes you are, printed on their paper. Link in bio! by @yellow.octopus

Gmund makes the paper. Fancy Paper makes sure it gets here.

@gmundpaper have been at it in Bavaria for almost 200 years, and think of themselves as partners in analogue communication rather than a mill. Their collection runs on a grid, colours built to sit beside each other without clashing, so designers spend less time deciding and more time making. Sound familiar?

@fancypapers_sg have been Singapore’s specialty paper distributors since 1989. They know the texture, the weight, and what will actually hold up in print here. We made a calendar together in 2017. They’ve been the people we call ever since.
