POSTS STORIES REELS

In 2013, I spent the last semester of college studying in Sorrento, just one summer after I’d lost my mom. It was my first time out of the country, my first Mother’s Day without her, and the first time I’d been removed enough from the aftermath of her passing to actually process things, start to heal. I knew I’d love my time in the Amalfi coast. But what I didn’t expect, after feeling her absence so deeply in my regular life, was to find her again, here.

I saw her in every detail she would have loved about this place, in all the things I was living out that she always wanted for my life. Andrew and I were saying this past Mother’s Day that perhaps the best way to ease the slow grieving of a parent is to try to live your life by the lessons they left behind, but mostly to honor that deep hope they harbored for you to truly fulfill what’s in your heart.

I returned and graduated, feeling like something had shifted. That next summer, I’d started to finally forgive the world for what happened, found the courage to go live on my own. It was also the summer I met Andrew.

The Amalfi coast is an amazing place to vacation (I know, “Italy, again?”), but for me it’s been a way to connect the two most important people in my life that will never meet. I hope he’s felt a little bit of her here too, in the magic that this place has brought us.

Thank you @cesarine__ and to Rachele and her family for opening up their home to us. You’ve reminded me exactly why I fell in love all those years ago ❤️
