POSTS STORIES REELS

I’m Maia, Maci & Beau are my pups. I was born & raised in Minneapolis (Minnesota, USA) but have lived in many other states as an adult, most of them with Maci. We currently live in Downtown Minneapolis but I’m not great at being in one place too long… Most of my career was spent working in early childhood. Over the last 5 years I transitioned from managing 0-5 year olds to managing adults, honestly kids are way easier & have fewer tantrums 😂 Maci’s a sassy & slightly reactive 11yo Shih Tzu who is literally my ride or die. She’s also 100% the boss of Beau, a 2yo, 100ish pound, hilarious, affectionate, medicated, muzzle trained, hyper aroused, selective, fear reactive, striking Great Pyrenees mix.

In March 2021 I made this page because I thought Beau was the cutest, most handsomest fluff ball I’d ever seen. Over time & with Beau’s development it’s progressed. It’s become not only a space to share about the good & funny times we have together but also the behavioral differences Beau experiences & how it can feel being his sole caretaker. I hope it’s a place that others learn from & that by sharing some of the rarely talked about behaviors & experiences others don’t feel so lost or alone if they’re going through something similar.

I was talking with Haley/ @lucy.with.a.dash.of.nash the other day about how we connected almost a year ago & we’re pretty sure it was through pyr mixes (@bubbarooand_poohbear) because Haley had been talking to them about muzzles 😂 These random types of connections are the best & one of the greatest things about Dogstagram 🥰 Honestly, I think random connections like that are how we “met” a lot of you ☺️ Thanks for hang with us & being part of our pack!

🎗️101 HOSTAGES🎗️
October 2024 still feels like October 2023…

How are 101 hostages still being held and tortured?
How hasn’t the world demanded their return?
How can people chant for anything other than peace?
How do you not hold the perpetrators accountable?
How do people justify these atrocities?
Where is your humanity?

Over 1200 people lost their lives on October 7, 2023 and so many more since as a direct result of an extremist groups actions. A group whose primary goal is to erase Jews and anyone who supports Jews and Israel. The week after was shocking and heartbreaking but the year since has been disheartening and disappointing and eye opening. October 2023 also brought the Jewish people and Israelis together in a way many still don’t and probably will never understand. We are a people, a tribe, a multifaceted community and most importantly a family 🤍

Maci, Maci May, Mace, Mace Face, Sissy, Sis, My Girl

15 years of you, almost 15 years of knowing you and loving you. She’s saved me from so many things, been my shadow and literal ride or die, my passenger princess. We’ve lived and traveled all over the country together. Survived things I wasn’t sure we would.

Neither of our health has been ideal the last few years but we’re still powering through. Most people wouldn’t guess she’s 15, multiple people this month said max 10 years old. 10 makes sense when she’s fluffy, unless you see her cloudy eyes and notice her hearing is minimal. At least that has helped her not be as anxious or protective of Beau 😂

I hope the next year is like a lazy river… smooth, relaxing, enjoyable, and that there are minimal health issues, lots of snacks and as many sniffaris as her heart wants.

Thank you for being such an amazing sister to Bandit and then to Beau and for being my bestest friend. Love you Mace 💕 by @yoursecretbeau

I decided to run Beau through @wisdompanel this summer. At first it said he didn’t have any relatives but when I checked this weekend I was SHOCKED!

TWO FULL BROTHERS from two separate litters!!! One is about a year older than him and the other within a year after his litter 🤯

Pawsitive Tails in MO is who ran the tests Beau matched to so I have no idea what these boys look like as adults but I have my suspicions 😂 If you know anyone that adopted a pyr mix from them or HHR, have them do @wisdompanel! From my count, after talking to someone from their rescue and what I know from @healingheartsrescuemn there could be around 25 siblings from mom 🤯 AND a ton look like they’re Merle as babies.

Peer Pressure: Do the DNA test!

Spay and neuter your animals, especially if you insist on letting them roam free!!! I love Beau and I’m so grateful he’s in my life, but his mom didn’t have an easy life. She unfortunately passed away a couple years ago, either from an unknown illness or getting hit by a car. Grateful she gave me my boy 🥹

$Happy 250th Birthday United States of America! 🇺🇸❤️🤍💙🇺🇸 I come from immigrants. I come from immigrants that built beautiful lives in the USA from scratch. I come from immigrants that came to the USA in hope of the American Dream. I come from a family and a people who carry a spark that refuses to be put out, and who believe in Tikkun Olam, that our job is to repair a fractured world and bring light to dark places. Today, I am so proud of the legacy of resilience they passed down. For years, the 4th felt icky and sad to celebrate. Why be proud when our government was doing so much I disagreed with? But I’m taking the 4th back. My family fought to be part of the freedom this country promises. The United States of America is not perfect, and unfortunately seems to be currently repeating some of its history. But, I have more freedom today than most other countries in the world. I’m free to be myself, to be openly Jewish, to be a single woman wearing what I choose and say what I feel, and to have cards and property in my name, and I know it is more freedom than my ancestors ever dreamed possible. Today, July 4, 2026, I choose to honor all my family fought for. Happy Birthday America! 🇺🇸🎉❤️🤍💙 #july4th #4thofjuly #indepenceday #godblessamerica #dogsofusa by @yoursecretbeau$

What. A. Month.
Finally, NO MORE CONE ❤️‍🩹

Gundersen flap surgery and recovery is no joke, especially on both eyes at the same time and even more rough at 14.5yo. Healing took way longer than any of us expected in the eye most recently affected, but as of today Maci is officially ulcer free. Her grafts are healing well, stitches are almost gone, and we’re down to just steroid drops for the next month before we check tear production (no worries there).

This ulcer journey since December that morphed into double eye surgery and recovery has been exhausting emotionally. Maci’s been in pain, not seeing well if at all, not hearing great, and it’s thrown everything off. She kept walking into Beau, he’s terrified of the cone, and recently she decided his bed is actually hers now, and he is not necessarily a fan.

Hopefully she starts feeling like herself again now that the cone is gone. She did jump out of the car like the independent b*tch she is when we got home today, so def a win.

It’s going to be weird not seeing the vet staff for a whole month. They’ve been amazing, getting us in immediately every time her ulcers showed up out of nowhere and making sure she got medicated contacts right away.

And honestly, they’ve been just as good with Beau. They actually get his space issues, which is rare, and it’s made me way more confident in the decisions I make with him. I forgot his muzzle once back in January and the vet told me he was totally fine without it, which I know can be a loaded statement, but in that moment it was what I needed to hear. He wasn’t being examined, everyone was calm, and its been a really good confidence boost for both of us the last 5 months.

Maci and I love you a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck 🥰 by @yoursecretbeau

Happy 5th Birthday Beau 🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳

So much has happened since he turned 4, some great things and some heartbreaking things, and all of them make me so extremely happy to have him. Beau feels deeply, he shows it in big ways and I love him just the way he is.

Bubs, thank you for trusting me. Thank you for not giving up when I struggled to help you. Thank you for loving Maci and me the way you do. And thank you for finding us right when I needed you 🥰

Dear 2025,
Thanks for Maci & Beau’s health, the hostages coming home, with hope that Ran Gvili will be returned soon, the friends that stuck around, the ones who cried and celebrated with us, the tears—both happy and sad, for Am Yisrael, the sunrises and sunsets, the music, the hard lessons, and the realizations that centered my soul.
Thank you for helping me choose hope, even when it would’ve been easier not to.

‏Happy Chanukah 🕎

‏This Chanukah started off so unbelievably heavy. My heart is with all of the Bondi victims and survivors, the Jews just trying to celebrate, the people caught in the crossfire, and the heroes of all ages, religions, and nationalities. With the darkness, there have been so many inspiring stories, and while there’s not much I can do, I can share funny videos of my dogs to spread some light and Chanukah laughs 🥰

‏Maci and Beau are not great at pushing through doorways or tight spaces so this was… entertaining 🤣😂 Lots of wrapping paper was used and none of it was the right height for Beau 😂

✡️🕎 Chag Chanukah Sameach 🕎✡️

I heard someone talking about the Jewish phrase “be the light,” both the beauty of it and the frustration people feel around it. I say it a lot these days, but I’m not sure I’ve explained why. In Judaism, it comes from the idea of being a Light Unto the Nations: living with integrity, justice, compassion, strength, truth, love, and tikkun olam. That is Judaism.

For me, “be the light” isn’t about being quiet or agreeable. It’s about naming truth, being proudly Jewish, and advocating and encouraging others to show up for their communities with hope and empathy.

On Chanukah, we light the menorah using the shamash, the helper candle. It’s the one that lights the others by spreading more light. That’s how I think about Judaism and the Jewish people. We’ve survived thousands of years of attempts to erase us, and we’re still here, still lighting Shabbat and Chanukah candles, and refusing to disappear or hide.

Chanukah commemorates the Maccabees, a small Jewish army that stood up to the Greeks who tried to eradicate Jewish life and practice in Judea. They were outnumbered and outmatched, and still they won. After the Second Temple was desecrated, only enough oil for one night was found, but it burned for eight nights, long enough for new, pure oil to be prepared.

The story of Chanukah isn’t just about what happened then. It’s about what it takes to keep going when the light feels fragile or nearly gone and choosing to protect it and fight for it anyway. Am Yisrael Chai 🤍 by @yoursecretbeau
