Yugaantar Goa has submitted a formal letter to the Director of the Directorate of Archaeology Goa congratulating the department for notifying the historic Hatkatro Khamb at Old Goa as a protected monument. In the letter, Yugaantar Goa welcomed the move as an important step towards preserving Goa’s historical and cultural heritage and urged the department to officially retain the name Hatkatro Khamb in all references and notifications related to the monument.

The organization stated that the name Hatkatro Khamb carries deep cultural and historical significance in the collective memory of Goans and is closely associated with Goa’s colonial past and the period of the Goa Inquisition. The letter also highlighted the research findings of P. P. Shirodkar regarding the Hale-Kannada inscription found on the pillar, which points towards links with pre-colonial Hindu temple architecture. by @yugaantargoa

A Jesuit missionary recorded Hindu temples as so magnificent that even Rome’s grandeur seemed to pale in comparison describing one Hanuman temple with 700 richly carved pillars.
Yet the same missionary order was involved in the suppression of Hindu religious institutions in Portuguese Goa.

Today is Death Anniversary of Dr. T. B. Cunha

(2 April 1891 – 26 September 1958)

Tristão de Bragança Cunha, popularly known as T. B. Cunha, was a pioneering Goan nationalist and anti-colonial activist, widely known as the “Father of Goan Nationalism.” The Government of India’s Unsung Heroes portal records his role in organising the movement against Portuguese rule in Goa.
He founded the Goa Congress Committee in 1928 and worked to connect Goa’s struggle with the wider Indian nationalist movement. He was arrested by the Portuguese authorities, tried by a military tribunal and deported to Portugal because of his nationalist activities and writings.
He passed away in Bombay on 26 September 1958, three years before Goa’s Liberation in 1961. by @yugaantargoa
