What Remains for Us? The Kazakh nation carries a rich history, a story of its roots, traditions, ethnicity, struggles, and freedom. However, following the advent of Soviet rule and the systematic suppression of Kazakh culture, almost nothing of this history was left behind. We approach our homeland’s past with great respect and would like to share it with others. Yet, like most of our compatriots, we know very little about it. That is precisely what our work is about. At the center of the installation stands a yurt as a symbol of home and a defining element of the cultural code. At the same time, it is fragile and conditional, representing one of the few things we have left. Fire, which can both destroy and purify, offers the viewer a choice: whether they are witnessing the final trace of a vanishing nation or its rebirth, which today rests in the hands of young Kazakhs trying through their art from different corners of the world to bring public attention back to Kazakhstan and what is happening within it. střední formát (film), digitální tisk 123x150 cm 2026 by @yulipovetkina

K hoře chovám úctyplný, r by @yulipovetkina

There should be a long text here about capitalism and all its consequences — and someday, there will be. But right now, I just want to say thank you to my life for letting me see this world from all sides — to witness both its most beautiful and its most terrible facets. While some people cry because they can’t buy a new iPhone for $800, others work for $300 a month. It’s hard to imagine how someone can survive in a country like the UAE on such money, working 12+ hours a day in +45°C heat. Just a reminder of the world we live in. Just a topic for reflection — on what you consider the true value of life. UAE, Sharjah 2025 by @yulipovetkina
Warmth beyond touch This work is about the quiet distance and the invisible price we pay for the right to choose our own path. In the context of immigration, FaceTime is no longer just a tool for communication; it becomes an instrument that distorts time. It offers a fleeting illusion of presence: while it is still light and I am having lunch, my family on the other side of the screen is already sitting down for dinner. For me, the lives of my loved ones cease to be a continuous flow, shattering instead into fragments—a series of frozen frames. I catch them only in «permitted» moments, when they have the strength, the time, and the desire to appear «normal.» Everything that happens between these calls—the routine, the struggles, the true current of life—falls into a void I cannot reach. Video calls do not restore lost time; they only sharpen the ache of its absence. Within this space, I am merely a bystander. I watch them live their lives, while they see me unchanging: frozen at my desk against a blank white wall. The sterility of my world stands in stark contrast to the chaos and warmth of the kitchen—the place where our togetherness was once felt most deeply. The scene I have staged in that kitchen is steeped in symbolism: every mundane action of my family members serves as a metaphor for the events and meanings from which I am now excluded. It is an attempt to capture what I lack and to acknowledge that even the most perfect image on a screen remains just a beautiful frame, hiding the silence of separation.
