Miller stepped in and pulled focus, but now that I have your attention— Tom’s new novel “West of Loveland” comes out on Tuesday. It’s the fourth book in his Grouse County series, and I believe it’s his finest (you don’t have to have read the others to enjoy this one). I forced myself to take my time, only reading a bit each night, not wanting it to end. It’s so funny, endearing and mysterious. A gem. Grab it at @skylightbooks or your local shop. by @zacharysluser
Thank you @anyaleta for expanding my world and my heart. It’s been a joy to share these first 10 years with our community of friends and family. by @zacharysluser
I moved to LA in September 2003 and through a stroke of good fortune had an opportunity to meet one of my heroes, David Lynch, at his home studio. I nervously waited in my car for 30 minutes before it was time to knock on the door. We drank coffee, talked about digital video cameras and he gave me a tour of his studio. When he asked what I thought about one of his paintings I think I just said, it’s a bit unsettling. He said “Yeah. It IS.” I said I liked the texture. He said, “me TOO”. Whenever I ran into David over the years I was always surprised that he not only remembered my name, but would generously introduce me to a friend, “this is ZAC, a talented young filmmaker”. One of the highlights of my life is when David came to a short film screening and stood up to ask a question during the Q&A. My heart stopped. He cut the tension with a joke that made the whole room crack up. Unforgettable. Before embarking on my first feature film David was kind enough to give me a pep talk. He described to me his process of directing that I think perfectly encapsulates the way to attempt to go about doing the job, “Every morning when I go to set I feel like I’m walking on a bridge made of glass. Slowly, as I get what I need—and I don’t move on from a shot until I get what I need—I turn the bridge of glass into a bridge made of steel. Then I can go to sleep on the stability of the bridge of steel and wake up the next day to face the bridge of glass again.” Thank you, David for showing me kindness and for being that (unattainable) beacon of light of artistic integrity for so many who come to Los Angeles. by @zacharysluser

Writers deserve fair pay for creating the architecture that this multi-billion dollar industry is built upon. The studios have been slowly hollowing out a middle class career into gig work for too many. #wgastrong by @zacharysluser
