POSTS STORIES REELS

Alhumdulillah, our expedition report has been published in the Himalayan Club Journal, Volume 80—and I received my author’s copy a few days back. It still feels surreal.

To be featured in one of the world’s most respected mountaineering journals is deeply humbling. This expedition was never just about reaching a point on the map. It was about intent, preparation, and how a plan comes together in the mountains. Every decision on the mountain had a story behind it. Every line in that report carries effort, intent, and shared experience.

We spent days planning the route, largely because there was very little information available on any past attempts through it. We studied maps, analysed older satellite images, and debated every possible line. In the end, what truly defined the success of this expedition wasn’t just preparation or strategy—it was the trust within the team.

Grateful to the Himalayan Club for the platform, and incredibly proud to be sharing this with the people who made it possible. This belongs not just to us, but to the mountains—and to the climbing community of Kashmir.

MT. KOHINOOR SOUTH-WEST | 5,136 M🇮🇳

A summit earned through adaptability, perseverance, teamwork, and an unwavering commitment to the objective.

Plans changed. The terrain challenged us. The mountain tested us at every step - but we never lost sight of the goal.

9 September 2026 - Summit achieved.
Proud to have shared this journey with my teammates @powpaji Chandan Pal Singh and @zaidoutthere Zaid Fayaz, and deeply grateful to everyone whose support made this expedition possible.
The mountain was the challenge.
The summit was the reward.
The journey was the achievement.
Honoured to raise the 🇮🇳 at 5,136 metres.

MOUNT KOHINOOR SOUTH-WEST EXPEDITION 2026
5,136 m | Kishtwar, Jammu & Kashmir

Summit Date: 9 September 2026
Teams Has @wasim__hassan(EL) @powpaji @zaidoutthere
summited after 50years

A sincere note of gratitude following the successful Mount Kohinoor South-West Expedition 2026.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to the Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF) for their guidance, coordination, and support throughout the expedition.

Special appreciation to Mr. Akhil Purohit, ADGP Mr. Garib Das, Sir, and his Personal Assistant, Mr. Rohit, Sir, for their valuable assistance, cooperation, and support, particularly during the logistical and administrative challenges we faced while changing our approach

We are equally grateful to all the officers, authorities, and the individuals

Their support helped us overcome unexpected challenges and remain focused on our objective of reaching the summit of Mount Kohinoor South-West (5,136 m).

The Mount Kohinoor South-West Expedition 2026 began with an unexpected change of plan. Our permitted approach was through Pahalgam under IMF expedition clearance on 3 sep, but local restrictions prevented us from proceeding along the approved route.

Adapting to the situation, we shifted our approach to Sukhnai Village in the Warwan Valley. After reaching Sukhnai on 5 September, we trekked toward Kohinoor Valley and established Base Camp near Kohinoor Lake at approximately 4,000 m.

Following reconnaissance and two exploratory pushes on 7 and 8 September, the team established an Advanced Camp at around 4,700 m for the final summit attempt.

On 9 September, we launched the summit push, climbing an approximately 200 m ice gully with gradients reaching 65°, followed by exposed and technically demanding terrain along the upper ridge.

At 12:00 noon, the team successfully reached the summit of Mount Kohinoor South-West (5,136 m).

The ascent was a test of adaptability, endurance and technical climbing, from an unexpected route change to sustained high-altitude terrain above 5,000 metres.

A successful ascent shaped by changing plans, challenging terrain and unwavering commitment to the objective.

Standing on a summit is always rewarding, but retracing a route that has remained absent from modern mountaineering records for over 80 years makes the experience even more meaningful.

Alhamdulillah!
On 8 July 2026, we reached the summit of Mt. Sekiwas (documented as Point 15404ft), making this the first civilian and native ascent of this peak

Until today, the only successful ascent took place 80 years ago, in August of 1945, by John Angelo Jackson and his team as recorded in The Himalayan Journal (Vol. 13, 1946) and noted in the book Climbers’ Guide to Sonamarg, Kashmir. Today, we added our names to that exclusive history.

We left Base Camp at 4am and reached the summit at 11am. We crossed the YemHar Pass and then followed the exposed pinnacle ridge to the summit. Of our five member team, Zaid ,Hilal and Muzammil managed to reach the summit.

A special mention to @ajkmount for their unwavering support throughout this journey.

During our research we could not find any documented ascent of the peak since the expedition in 1945. We welcome any historical evidence that we might have missed and may help further document its climbing history.

First Drop, Many Falls, One Lesson 🏂
..
This was my first attempt from mery shoulder.
Honestly, I was really scared in the beginning. It was my first time, I had no idea how the slopes would be, and I was all alone.
Sitting on the chairlift, I was super nervous and confused, thinking about what to do and whether I should even go for it.
But once I reached the top and saw the slopes, something changed. I felt confident in myself. I told myself that no matter what happens, I’ll make it down safely.
That confidence pushed me to try proper techniques on my way down — the best decision for me.
There were improvements, there were many falls too, but one thing stayed constant: I gained confidence.
I tried, I learned, and I worked on mastering my techniques.
This is how progress begins. 🏂❄️ by @zaidoutthere

Trails carved by boards and skis, fog rolling over the slopes, and mountains watching from behind the clouds. This is how Gulmarg felt — calm, cold, and quietly magical

#girls #gulmarg #snow #kashmir by @zaidoutthere

I recently began my snowboarding journey in Gulmarg.
While I’ve learned the basic techniques — balance, turns, and control — I’ve come to understand that learning a skill and mastering it are very different stages.

To truly improve, both the mind and body need time to adapt. Patience, consistency, and a strong commitment to learning are essential. The more I practice, the more confident and controlled my movements become.

After four to five days of consistent effort, I started taking drops from the shoulder line. The beginning wasn’t easy — there were falls and moments of hesitation — but each attempt was part of the process.

Gradually, control improved, confidence grew, and the technique started to feel natural.

This is still the initial stage of the journey. There is much more to refine and master. For now, the focus remains on steady progress, disciplined practice, and continuous improvement
